Hello,

I currently EDC a small Sebenza which although excellently made and rock solid, does seem to be an overkill (and bit too aggressive looking) for a EDC that is worn/carried/used in an office.

So after some time here on BF I started to think of a more subtle yet usable knife and I am wondering whether a custom knife could be the solution.
I would be looking at a knife with some 2.75" blade, nice liners (dyed stabilised wood or even a stag), decent steel, thin grind, some sort of lock (liner or even frame?) and ideally one hand opening operation. I do not have a too clear idea about the design yet, but probably not too classical.

My question is - where to look? What price category would I be looking at? I am just trying to test the waters - I am not sure yet whether I will take the jump yet.

There are tons of options. I think its really up to YOU what price range you want to take up. There are options for all kinds of prices. I assume you want something less tactical if the CRK looks too aggressive. Do you want damascus steel? Is the knife just for opening boxes and wrappers?/

Point taken on the price. I would prefer to stay under $500, but I am not sure whether that is not too tight.

I am not looking into damascus steel. I would like the knife to look classy, but it does not have to scream (to non knife person) that it was expensive. The knife would be pretty much for everything short of heavy use (that I would simply use a fixed blade for at home - I do not tend to need heavy duty knife at work).

Just an example - I had a chance to try the CRK Mnandi and it looked great with those elder box burl scales, but it was just too slim for me to get a decent grip (and I do not have large hands), otherwise I would have probably kept it. I went with Sebenza mainly because of the better grip.

I know there are quite a few makers out there and many are members here, but that does not make the search any much easier - if you guys could post photos of your customs with a little info that would help a lot.

I am also in the market for gentlemans folder for a new suite job.I was considering the mnandi ,however i have HUGE hands so now I'm a little concerned after hearing your comments.I will be keping an eye on this thread.I also been looking at the benchmade 482 megumi to hold me over until I find my more premium choice.
