Thinking of getting a 112. My regular EDC is a Mini-Grip

I currently EDC a Mini-Grip. However there's just something nice about a good old Buck 110 or 112.

I already have a 110 and it's just too large for me to carry daily.

I was thinking of grabbing a 112 to carry instead of my Mini-Grip.

How heavy is the 112? I'm hoping it cannot be flicked open but that it can still be held by the blade and tha handled dropped open.

Will it be too heavy and too bulky?

:)

It's not too bulky, but probably a little heavy for pocket carry. I carry mine in a sheath. You will definitely be able to one hand open it by holding the blade and letting the handle drop.

There's something about my 112 finger groove, the blend of aesthetics and ergonomics maybe, that makes it seem like the perfect knife in so many ways. On a pure bottom line basis, I like it better than my $150 Benchmades.

Cool. I think I'm going to order one tonight. Do the finger grooves get in the way or are they pretty helpful?

Thanks LBG!

One thing I noticed about the 110FG and 112FG versus the standard knife: they both feel thinner...So if a 112 fit you just right, expect the FG to feel skinnier...

A bolsterless 112 with G10 scales over brass liners would make a nice lightweight version of a knife that feels great in the hand.....hmmmm.

Saw a weight of 5 ounces for the 112. Don't remember where, just know I saw it.

Dang. I just looked and it's 5.6 ounces.

A Benchmade 520 is 5.6 ounces too.

Good grief. Well......forget that. :(

Sorry, I don't carry in a sheath. It makes me feel too much like a hillbilly.

Joe, I hate to see you not get a 112(FG is my fav) because of a sheath issue. There are several(Gary Graley, Paul Long, K. V. Collucci{a forum Mod}) forumites, I'm sure could fix you up with a horizontal carry, non-flap sheath:thumbup: that would not look anyway hillbillyish. Preston

I still want a 112 really bad, but the weight bothers me. I've never had to carry a knife in a sheath. I either carry clipped to my pocket or just let it ride in my pocket.

I've had a 520 and let it just ride in my pocket and man was it heavy. That's a lot of weight for a little 112 ;)

I'm gonna have to think about this. :)

Get yourself a horizontal carry sheath. It follws your belt and is a lot less conspicuous. ;)

I often don't even use the sheath for my 110, i find it fine for pocket carry. A 112 should be even better.

You might consider some of the bucklites. Same blade and about 2 ounces. There is a bucklite thread down lower with some pics. My buck lite has a 112 stamped blade and finger grip.

Both are nice but my 112FG feels just right to me. I have seldom held a knife that felt more natural in my hand.

The old 422 was the bucklite version of the 112. I have one, it is made in the US. I believe they have been discontinued now. The 426 was the 110 equivalent. Both are very nice, very light, and most importantly to me take a great edge and are very comfortable to use - even for extended periods of time.
All in all, I still prefer the 110 and 112, but the 426 and 422 are great when weight is a factor. I use a removeable stud so I can open with one hand (old habit - used to serve on a rescue squad). For me these blades will do it all.
