Thinking of getting a 550

It seems there is a lot of hype surrounding the 0550, 0560. Now my question is, why is the hype around the 0550, 560, instead of ZT's other knives. Is it really just THAT good and why? I need to know, because money is tight for me. Is $160 a good price for a Gen 2 right now? Essentially what I'm saying is, Convince me to buy it.

So far, it's the ZT I've been carrying for the past couple of weeks, and takes to hard use pretty well. The S35VN is pretty good and stays sharp for a while. It's also smoother than all my other ZTs save for the 560.

Also, I believe that Kershawguy still has blems of both 0550 and 0560 if its going to be a user and get beat on a little. I just received my gen 2 0550 the other day, his blems are cosmetic only.

Just got a 0550 myself today. Been dreaming of one since I first handled one as part of a pass around. Not sure why I dawdled so long. The ergonomics are outstanding and the construction is top notch. One of the best values in production knives I have seen in a long time.

My 0550, for me, is the perfect sized edc knife with an amazing wicked-edge holding blade and a well sized handle that fits great in my hand. It also attracts some attention at work lol

Just got my 550 yesterday and love it. Very smooth. I was like a six year old on Christmas morning. You cant go wrong with this knife. Check out Rivals scales if you get one. Already talked to him about a scale for mine.

I recently acquired a 0550 from Dave Kershawguy and it has to be my favorite knife. Super smooth, extremely sharp, fits my hands well, it also carries very deep in the pocket. The knife then tempted me into purchasing an 0561. Which is another great choice as well, just a pinch narrower in feel when in the hands but a larger blade.

If you need more push to buy it you could always swing by my area and you can look over my ZT0550BLK

Pick one up. If you want an awesome EDC that can take anything you throw at it, the ZT 0550 is the one. It's smooth, beautiful, sharp as heck, holds its edge well, and takes an edge fairly easy.
Check out the scales at Monkey Edge for $65. They're the frag scales you see a lot here on the forums.

here's my 550BLK, it's even smoother than my JYDII, and that's saying something:

Yes get a 550. I love mine. In fact, it replaced my 560. I find the 550 size to be just right.

I have a 551 with a custom carbon fiber scale from CUSCADI in Germany and they are exactly as others have described. The perfect size for edc without sacrificing heft and force when needed.....I think it is one of those knives that bridges many genre and can do most anything very well if not excellently!! I say get it and a custom scale......worth every penny.

The 0550, like most of the other ZT models, has a hefty, overbuilt tank-like feel. That said, it's actually feels pretty lightweight relative to its overall size. The S35VN takes and holds a great edge (couldn't really notice any difference compared to S30V or D2). I made a spiral cut ribbon out of a tin can, and other than a couple of small rolled spots (easily steeled out), there was no appreciable wear on the blade (other than marking up the DLC something fierce). It is a very smooth opening/closing knife once you figure out the trick to it, and it has good overall ergonomics.

The only thing I didn't like was the bulk. It is not a small knife (nor was it meant to be). I found it to be okay for back pocket carry, but when it was sharing space with my keys and wallet in my front pocket, it was a bit overcrowded. This is really more a matter of personal preference though. If the bulk doesn't bother you, it is a pretty awesome knife to EDC.
