Thinking of getting an Axis Stryker...

Hey guys. I've been strongly considering getting one of the new axis strykers. Either the 908 or 903. It's going to be a user EDC so I'm looking for good durability and comfort. I love the drop point blade rather than the tanto! This knife has got the axis lock, a nice deep carry clip, full length steel liners, flat g10 handle scales (not the milled out contoured 3D style one), and decent steel. I would much prefer M390 but at this price point that's asking a lot. But 154CM has been very good to me and like it a lot. It's tough, take a very sharp edge pretty easily, and holds it for a good while. That's pretty much everything I want in a hard use knife.
So I'm just wondering if anyone here has any experience with the axis strykers and what they think of it?

They're great. Very flat, and very nicely built. The G10 is extremely rough from the factory, so bad that you might need to wear it down on a piece of carpet or something before carrying it. Mine absolutely tore up pants before I removed the clip and smoothed out the G10 a bit.

You might want to try the tanto version, a full flat ground thin bladed tanto slices very very well, something that must be experienced to believe ;)

I carried a 910 Stryker (liner lock Tanto version) for years while working and I can tell you it's one tough dependable knife.

Add the AXIS and I can only see it making it that much better.

Like I said I carried one for years and subjected it to regular & hard use on a variety of cutting tasks and was never disappointed or felt myself ill equipped because of the blade or knife design. Quite the contrary.

Second only to maybe the AFCK the Stryker is on of my favorite BM knives that I used long term. A standout for sure!

Good luck and all the best!

I still have my old 910 and love it but my 913 now gets more use with the drop point blade. My friend above is going to make me pull out my 800 AFCK and carry it for awhile. I do forget how nice the knife is!

Thanks guys that's good news and I'm glad to here it. Now it's just the choice of the mini or standard size Stryker!

The AFCK really is special isn't it. After what has to be about 17 years now I still think it one of the best knives ever made.

Enjoy putting it back to good use my friend!

I'd go standard myself. The original 910 was 3.70" if I recall and I found that just about the perfect size. The new 908 & 909 blades are smaller then the original. Blade length is 3.57" long and 0.124" in width. That's about as small as I'm willing to go lengthwise on a blade I plan on using for work / EDC.

But that's just my opinion.

Best of luck on whatever you choose.!

I've been heavily leaving towards the standard version actually. The mini is nice but it looks a wee bit short. For my EDC needs I want something I can get a good purchase on. There's a local shop that sells benchmade knives and I am going to go try them both out now that I've made up my mind to get one.

I have an oppurtunity to get a 908BK with the coated blade for an amazing price. How's the BK1 coating compared to something like DLC? I've never had a coated Benchmade. Does the BK1 coating hold up well? Like I mentioned I plan to really use the knife like it was meant to be used. Not abused or anything but it's gonna see some hard use.

The BK1 definitely won't hold up as good as DLC; some people say that it wears really fast, but others like me have had no problems with it. I've seen lots of videos where people will do simple cutting tasks like cutting rope and it'll start to come off. I'm sure other people on here will come and tell you about their experiences.... I only have one Benchmade with BK1.

BK1 sucks. Even if it wears will still protect but is too danged fragile for my likes. DLC or CeraKote, even BT like they used to use would be better. It is another reason why I prefer stainless unless the steel's a tool-type like M2 or M4 which in real use would rust without.

I logged on just now specifically to find info on the Stryker and this was the first post I saw. It looks like just what I've been looking for. This is one I may consider going with a combo edge which I don't normally do. Yea I think this is definitely going to the top of my wish list!

No comparison, DLC is much tougher than the BK1 coating or even Cerakote. I don't mind the worn look but for the price range Benchmade really should step up and go with DLC like several of their competitors already offer.
