Thinking Of Getting My First Sebenza

I am pondering picking up my first Sebenza. I have never favored either Frame Lock knives, nor Metal Scaled knives, but the Sebenza does kind of transcend both of these.

I use my daily carry knife like most people I assume, mostly some light duty, cutting tags, maybe minor food prep on occasion.

Leaning toward the Insigno profile. I gather it still has enough point for penetration on occasion?

I wouldn't say my Sebenzas transcend frame locks and metal scaled knives. I'd say they define them. Or to put it another way, if you don't like frame locks or metal scales, I wouldn't expect you to like a Sebenza. And the Insingo blade shape (modified Wharncliffe) isn't a favorite of mine, so I can't really say much about whether it would be adequate for penetration on occasion. I'll leave that to those who use Insingos.

PS: There are some things you can do to mitigate your dislike of metal scales. Inlays make a big difference as do the carbon fiber exclusives at Knifeart.com. (I've got the Small Carbon Fiber and I absolutely love it. :) ) But when it comes to the frame lock, I'm afraid you're stuck . . . figuratively speaking of course. ;)

I did not like the look of the Insingo blade originaly, but have grown to really like it in actual use.Got a large plain in my pocket right now!Spend a few minutes with one, you'll either like it or not......

Go for it. Are you looking at the large or small Sebenza? I have a regular small Sebenza that has been my EDC for the last 7 years and bought a Sebenza 25 of the forum today.

I have not used the Insingo blade, but my son ordered a small, left hand Sebenza 21 with the Insingo blade and micarta inlays at the Blade show. He really likes the blade style.

I love my large plain insingo. the Small insingo is very popular too, I just don't have one. The tip does indeed penetrate well for stabbing and cutting. The swedge brings it to a nice point and it is very useful. The insingo just isn't good for work where you will need a fine point, like adding a new hole in your belt.

Buy one, if it's not for you, sell it. They hold their value well. I love my sebs.

It is a really handy blade shape and excels at food prep due to the shape of the Insingo blade.

I have a large micarta Insingo and if I ever buy a small Sebenza it would have to be a small micarta Insingo.

Everyone who has one seems to love it.

I love the Insingo, problem is you will likely want to get the regular profile blade after you get the Insingo and then you will want to try a 25 to see if its really that much better then the 21 and then ... if you didn't buy a knife with an inlay you will wonder about inlays or knives without inlays if you bought knives with. Then you will want to better express your personality by buying a CG and wouldn't it be nice if that CG was a UCG. Then you will start to wonder about the History of CRK and just why people are so tuned up about the regular and then you will be broke.

I just recently bought my first Sebenza, a 25, and I couldn't be happier. The quality and class just ooze out from every detail on this knife. I can't stop playing with it, and my wife can't stop rolling her eyes at me.

It was definitely worth the money, to me.

+ 1 to that. Eating peanut butter sandwiches but great CRKs to use and enjoy!

Haa! So true!
That pretty much sums up my past year.

Mine, too.

Except I went the every type of Umnumzaan (new pivot lefty, old pivot w/no LBS OR "Made in Idaho," and Wilson Combat model) and micarta route (lefty micarta 21, micarta Insingo, both large) and recently picked up a micarta 25, probably my favorite of them all. That or the lefty new-pivot Umnumzaan.

It's easy to want a variety of CRKs once you have one.

It's hard to pay for them all!

I sold my large micarta 21 with the regular drop point blade, and I miss it every day. I will have another one. I have pondered the insingo, but I think the blade shape of the standard 21 is, simply, perfection. For me, it doesn't get any better than the standard blade shape.

I really like my large lefty regular 21 micarta, it is a sweet knife so I can understand what you are saying.

To be honest, CRK folders are so nice, every one of them, that is why I bought one of every type (regular and Insingo micartas, both large, 25 and micarta 25, old and new pivot Zaan, and a Wilson Combat new-pivot Zaan) while I had the means to do so.

I feel very blessed, and when someone leans toward a particular CRK folder, I can agree with every one of them because I feel/have felt the same way so much that I sacrificed to get one.

Now I'm focused on resupplying the savings account!
