I've been mulling this over for a long time and I think now's the time to do it. I still get requests for the CD (which I did a year ago). Problem is, it's no longer up to my standards. And perhaps, not as informative as it could be.

So, I want to make a new one. This one will have more video, and with audio commentary - something a lot of folks have requested.

I'd like to divide it into 4 areas:

1 - Basic sharpening for first-timers
2 - Setting the convex edge
3 - Maintaining the convex edge
4 - Handle finishing

What else would you guys like to have on it? Or what specific techniques would you like me to include?

Remember this needs to be geared to newbies as much as regulars...

I'm also going to try to make it in a format that everybody can read/view and whatever plug-ins needed will be on the CD.

The knife of choice will still be the khukuri. But I may throw in a knife or two to illustrate techniques. Also, I'll be including both power-tool and hand-tool versions.

Maybe I can get Buzzbait to add his mousepad technique to it?

Give me your ideas - crazy ones are ok too....:D

Sign me up. :D

You should have a section on arcing from the grinder and open containers of gasoline.

I'm still learning, and I'm having a heck of a time with the new 21 chitlangi
I just got, I can't seem to get it there and I have tried mulitple times.

Maybe you should include pictures of scantly clad women (eye candy is always good, ask any ad guy), Even women's magizines do that.. I kinda like it too....

Dan, what timing. Just requested info for the old one. Which I'll get anyway.
My request is more hand tool oriented; how about,
Mouse Pad technique,
Harbor Freight abrasive tape.
Stroping
Edge repair, rolls, chinks etc.

What kind of results can be expected from the different methods; ie a belt sander is the best way to go but for those of use that don't have one can we
achive the same results with ... what technique?

I'll take a copy. Name the price.

Content suggestions:
1) Belt sander tips (belt types, grits, general techniques)
2) Stropping tips

Habaki to traditional bolster when you address handles would be nice...

Bruise, now that is caaaaaaaa ray zeee!!

Hey bruise I wanted to ask too, why do you have so many variations of bruise lee? like bruiselee bruiseleee etc just curious...

So Dan would it be overly optimistic to expect to see this by September? The local blade smiting class restarts then so I will be able to use the nice square wheels they have. So far I wave been just going for it, but I would love to see how you do sharpening.

I'd be one of the newbies that would love to have this resource. Perhaps a tutorial on qualities of steel, how to test the blades, all that stuff. Perhaps info on refurbishing and maintenance of the finish.

Is there a "Blades For Dummies" book out there?

Where besides Texas can you semi-formal learn intro blade smithing? Am I going to have to spend vacation down south for 2 weeks? Anywhere in the NE?

Dan, I’ve been thinking of asking you about the sharpening CD for a while, and if you think now's the time to do a new CD, then I would gladly sign up for it.
Thanks.

I wouldn't mind seeing a video on how to remove rolls, mushrooms, and other battle damage from the blade. I still have't got the hang of it.

Sign me up. You also might want to include tips on the care & feeding of the khuk (e.g. horn, wood & blade maintenance). Maybe a graphic demonstration of chigger removal with the GRS :barf:.

If it could be available for download, it would be great.International shipping is really unreliable unless it is EMS which is way too expensive :( .
PS:Thought it maybe unrelated to sharpening I would love to have a video of basic forging techniques.
Yaj.

Dan,

What you have in mind sounds good to me, although common repairs ("super glue fix" etc.) would be good as space allows.

Tom

For downloading, if you do make that option available, a bit torrent would be great. I can download an entire cd (500-700 mb) over night. Actually less but I am not sure when it finished. All you need is to find a host for the tracker (I think (positive) its free) and as long as you leave your client open people can download it off of you. Once I get it I would leave my client open for seeding anyways.

I just checked and if you (dan) don't want to mess with this torrent stuff then I could figure out a way once I get my CD.

Sign me up. Just what I need.
Gin the next time we get to Phoenix we'll have to have a mini khuk-khon with sharpening, stropping lessons and anything else everyone would like. You up to hosting it? I'm hoping next year some time but not sure when. We have to purchase a new car first.
For the price of little more than a blem you could get one of these small Delta belt sanders then you could sharpen like Dan and the rest of us grinder blessed ones.:D ;)
