Thinking of ordering cold steel Laredo Bowie in sk5!

Hi boki_zca -

I have never seen one of those - do you know where they are made (I could not find that information in 3 pages of google search results..)

**edit - I found the San Mai Laredo is made in Japan, so that's not a bad thing **/edit

For about the same price did you know you can get a 100% hand made custom Bowie from JK Handmade Knives in 01 tool steel?

I have a JK Bowie ordered - just thought you might like to see options - the JK Gamblers Bowie can be made with a coffin style handle, and Stomper (his member name here) uses real woods in the handles. The JK Bowie does not have the hand-guards like the Laredo, and I think the JK is 1/4" thick instead of 5/16".

Here is a link if you are inclined to look -

I have one and a few trailmasters. The sk-5 is good steel, no prob's with edge retention.
the laredo is a good knife, better edge geometry for slicing than the trailmaster and chops pretty well.
If you want more utility than cool go for the trailmaster, you can choke up on the blade or drawknife with it without the sharpened clip of the laredo.

I bought the laredo primarily because it was cool after using a trailmaster but it is actually functional as well.

I also agree there are good customs around for the pricepoint.

I can offer you a discount and save you some cash!

Anyone have this knife, or have tested it and used please reply:)

If you are looking for a field blade the Trail Master is a better choice IMO.

The handle on the Laredo isn't that hand friendly, but if you wear gloves or sand down the edges it's fine.

Ive held and chopped with both and the trailmaster is definitely a better chopper. The Laredo bowie is the quicker and livelier in the hand, more of a fighting bowie, but built stronger than most fighting bowies Ive seen.

Laredo is a great knife. The newest one is made in Taiwan. If you are needing a hard worker though there are some better options. Trail Master for one.

I have been eyeballing the new Stopmer too. Wish it were a 9".
