Relatively new to Spyderco, just got a Super Blue Endura a couple of weeks back...have not even used it yet...
The handle to blade ratio never really appealed to me, but really wanted to try out the super blue, so finally got an Endura. Excellent f&f and ergos..

This weekend i had the opportunity to handle a PM2, and i really liked it...now i want one...
as luck would have it, a local dealer here has some in stock at a decent price...
Thinking of picking one up tomorrow and i was wondering if there is any thing specific i should watch for when picking one out...
i know spydercos are well made with excellent f & f ...but with other knives in the past i have had everything from uneven grinds, to blades hitting back spacers, and minor f & f issues that i find annoying...
So, if you have any PM2s and have any pointers before i go pick one up, please let me know...
Thanks!

Sounds like you hit the nail on the head, like you say F&F is very high on spyderco's especially the golden models. There arnt really any major issues you need to BOLO for, just check the grind is acceptable, there arnt any marks or anything on the blade or handle and the lockup is good. If there are multiple knives to choose from pick the sharpest (spyderco's are all hand sharpened so its possible someone could have been having an off day on some) but to answer your question, no there isn't anything really specific you need to try to avoide. I highly doubt you would come across one that had an uncentered blade or a blade making contact with anything when closed.
Also very common for most spyderco's to need to be "broken in" so if the blade doesn't deploy quite as smooth as the one you handled don't be to concerned, as long as its not gritty it should smooth out over a few weeks of use.

Ask Rodney or Sean to pick you out a good one.
Most of the knives that come to Canada are usually tight at the pivot, so they always do a bit of fiddling for me when I zero in on a model.
You should be in safe hands.
Cheers

The Para2 is totally worth it, I highly recommend it. And if the local dealer you went to is the one on rexdale then even better cuz they have great customer service. Ive bought a couple knives from them online (to lazy to drive down :P ) they were very accommodating.

I was dead set on picking a PM2 up when I took a recent trip to Dallas (they have an authorized Spyderco dealer) I called and they had some in stock. However when I got there I had to play with everything, and I left with a Caly 3.5 in my pocket not a PM2.

While the para was an amazing knife the Caly fit my smaller hands much better, but you really cant go wrong with any Spyderco.

I'd look for horiz play when locked up.
A vast majority of folks with the PM2 have had horiz play.
It can be eliiminated, though with careful tweaking of the pivot and stop pin screws.
Oh, and I feel the F & F of the Taiwan made Spydercos is quite a bit better than the Golden ones in my experience.
I've had 2 Sage 1's (made in Taiwan) that were, for all intents and purposes, perfect.

Thank you! i did notice that out of the couple i have handled in the past the more used ones were much smoother...
Your input is much appreciated!

They both know me too well and how picky i am, they prefer i pick my own! lol! ;) Thanks!

Totally agree with that! had a couple of issues with knives from there in the past and i can honestly say that they have the best customer service of any retail establishment i have been to! Long as u are reasonable they will do what it takes..

I like knives that I can deploy and retract one handed...

Agreed!

Here it is!

Great stuff. I am going to try and make it to the store in the middle of November. I don't know what I will buy but it is very seldom that I get to handle any knives that I haven't bought on the interwebz. I am only about 3,000 miles away so I hope it's worth it!

Totally going to be worth it. They are very patient, specially if you let them know where you are coming from!

Very nice indeed. Well done.
Cheers

I was really impressed by the fit & finish of the PM2s,the only difference on the few i looked at was minor blade grind variation but still all were even on both sides and sharp, and maybe a little pattern marking kinda stuff on the G10.
All the Spydercos i have handled have had great f&f, excellent selection of steels at relatively decent prices, and the fact that Sal Glesser actually takes the time to respond to threads here and address issues, although i have not had experience with their customer service but seems like its great based on comments on BF - its all made me a supporter...

Awesome! My first Spyderco (also a PM2) is in the mail right now!

Levi

Awesome! Post a pic when its in!
