Thinking of scoring a 5.

Well...now I have 3 fours ( two black, one tan) and a 6. I've been thinking of going either up or down , and getting a 3 or 5. Sounds weird , I know, but the 3 looks like an awesome edc, and the 5 attracts me because of the sheer heavy-duty of it, although it's a weighty like my BK-2.(and twice the price!)

I predict you're gonna tell me to get both, amirite? Man, I'm stuck here ! I hardly use my other knives anymore. Maybe I should sell some , and buy more Esee's. They just work perfect for me.

Any of you fellas go in the bush with only a 5 on your belt ?

If you want a knife for the bush I'd recommend the ESEE-6. For me the ESEE-5 is the perfect knife for an urban environment. I'm getting an ESEE-5 for my uban BOB.

Come to the dark side... we have cookies.

Get the 5.

If I have to pick 1 blade (most of us don't!) in the bush (or a schumer hit the fan scenario) it would be my 5.

Got a six. Want another one of those too. I'm greedy:D

That's what I'm thinking bout the 5, although it's a heavyweight. Lots of guys here seem to like the 3 for the city as a lighter option.

5 is very thick and heavy and has a big handle. But, it's fun to have a knife you feel like you could cut a Buick in half with.

Don't have a 5 but I can say the 3 could be my favorite of the whole line, it just seems to get used more. Unless you need to cut yourself out of a plane I would say go with the 3. IMO that is....

Oh yeah, and like hoopster says get a junglas to go with your new 3!!!!

They are all good and I have no problem meeting all my cutting needs with the RC-5. It might be thick but keep it sharp and it'll cut just fine.

The 3 is incredible, I don't have a 5 though. Any particular application you had in mind, or just looking for a general bush knife?

For what it is worth, I seldom need anything bigger than an Izula, even in the bush, but do carry a RC3 Mil or a standard 3 often. I have also taken my RC 5 as my only cutting tool and, again, it did everything I needed. One very wet day the 5 was great getting into some dead beech to get at dry wood..an Izula may have been stretched a bit there! As one knife in a bad place the 5 would get my pick.

The way I feel is that the 5 should be able to handle some heavy, 'abusive' tasks that the 3 can't, but for most typical knife uses, the 3 will out perform the 5. The thin stock of the 3 is surprisingly robust, but makes for an incredible slicer

Thanks for your replies guys. I've been looking at the 3 in DT with MB. It has a lot of options as far as concealed carry goes. The thing is, with a knife of that size, I would always have it with me, whereas the 1 lb. weight of the 5 would be awkward. Here's what I think I'll do. Get the 3 for daily carry, and save for a 5 to keep in the truck. I have considered the Izula also for EDC. I own a Becker Necker, and I find the size is very limiting for me, as would be the Izula. That's why I pick the 3 for EDC, and the 5 for the bag. Good choice I think.

Hiwa, i go out into the bush with a 5 all the time and you wont regret it. Its a good user, its not to thic to make feathersticks and if you have alot of knife use under your belt delicate carving isnt an issue...I have the RC5, RC4, IZULA and the HEST.

I'd get the Junglas but that's just me.

i agree, get the junglas. based on my experience with them, the junglas will outperform the esee-5 on any task except maybe prying a car door open.

SHTF , grab only one blade appl.

if i can only have one blade, i'd pick the junglas hands down. two? junglas & lite machete. three? i'll add the esee-4. four? won't need it. i have enough ammo to feed a third world army :D

Guess it depends on the area of use.
In my free time at the end of the week i do some small scale foresting with a small fire on the side. I only had an Izula, scored an RTAK-2 yesterday. The Izula is great for small tasks, fuzz stickes, tinder etc, it even splits wood. The rtak makes short work of thicker wood and clearing logs of twigs. In the current line-up only thing missing would a be a RC-4.
Without the RTAK-2 my next investment would have been a RC-5.
If your coming from a 4, a 5 would be a good addition to do some hard work.

Oh if you plan to do some down scaling, get an izula. Awesome small little bugger. Just adding choices :p

Can not understand the rationale for just a Junglas in a temperate climate, let alone a machete (of any description). For jungle or the tropics (same thing!) that would be all well and good, just a machete would be the idea. For temperate environments, in either hemisphere, a good knife and, maybe a half axe, would be a better bet. Mind you, i only base my comments on 30 plus years in the outdoors (in a lot of environments).
