Have any of you seen improvements in grinding speed, finish and belt life on POST heat treated knives? switching from Norton Blaze to Cubitron II 984 belts? I start work at 60 grit for bevels. And I'm dealing with steel at around 61-63 HRC rating. Currently I can get 1 knife before the belts start burnishing.

I'm doing jig mounted bevels for chefs knives. I would say the typical size is of the work piece is 8"-14" x 2", so a good amount of surface area to grind.

I've used both, and I like both. I've not kept good enough records to say one way or another, which one really lasts longer or works better. I suspect the difference is pretty small.

In all honesty, I've been very happy with both, so I just buy whichever one I can get the better price on at the time.

You might want to try from TruGrit the VSM 760 in 60 grit. I have been really happy with them and they are a killer deal at $4

I've never used the norton, but the Cubitron II belts are great. They just seem to never lose their bite.

I like the Cubitron II's better than the Blazes but either way you can't go wrong. The 967 belts (yellow ones) are also great.

I do kitchen knives of that size post-HT. I start at 36 grit with the 984f's, and they work absolutely great for me. I can get 4 knives before I have to dress up the belt and then get maybe 2 more after that.

Ive really liked the 984's and the 967's are nice as well. The blaze belts I cant remember how well they hold up but bought some when they were on sale at usaknifesupply.

Ive found that Pops usually has the best price on the 984's

I do like Blaze belts; they cut aggressively and fast.... But they don't live long. I get more grinds out of the 984's, which means less money spent per blade. The 984 's recrack under high grinding pressures, exposing new surfaces. Who has two thumbs and won't be buying Blaze belts any longer... This guy.
