Thinking of switching from Sharpmaker to Edge Pro. What do you experts think?

I've had a Sharpmaker with the additional diamond rods for a few years, and after sharpening and re-profiling many knives, I think the diamond rods are about done. I don't ever use much more pressure that the weight of the knives alone, but I've done quite a few with high grade steels. Several SV30 blades, and the latest, greatest challenge was my Gossman 8" Tusker in A2. I'm pretty sure that one just plain did them in. Now my question:

I can re-up for another set of diamond rods, or I could upgrade my sharpening system altogether and get the Edge Pro. I know many of you are fans of the Wicked Edge system, but it's just plain beyond my price point.

I'm leaning towards the Edge Pro instead of new rods. What do you think?

I remember reading a comment on Spyderco's own forum where somebody said the Edge Pro was better "... by an order of magnitude." I had to agree. You can match the existing angle and sharpen (or even reprofile) using fairly economical stones. You can then maintain with your Sharpmaker (with it's regular rods). IOW, I vote "YES!"

The Sharpmaker is an excellent tool for what it is.
It was designed for 20DPS, and to KEEP a knife sharp, and it does that very well.

If you are getting into re-profiling, than your best bet is something that is designed for that kind of work, like the EP or the WE.

Hats off to the OP for putting in the work to re-profile on a SM, Must have been hell, even with A2!
