So, I have a few knives in the $200-$300 category.
But I'm really Jonesing for something exquisite.
The 2 knives on my radar are the Holt Haptic and Koenig Arius.
I know you can get the Arius without the flipper tab, which is probably the way I'd go with that knife.
Not sure they ever made a Haptic with thumb studs though.
Anyway, looking for input on these knives from current/previous owners.
Likes/dislikes, actual use, how did you get them, and any hints on how to purchase them.
Thanks in advance.

I've had both holt and koenig, though the holt was the Morpheus. I recently went on a splurge of discovery of the knife world. The koenig is far and away my preferred choice. I personally find knives that are just flippers to be pretty boring. Also, the Morpheus had a guillotine drop shut that just felt sloppy to me. It was nice that it was deep carry. It felt good in hand. It flipped well. But the koenig flips better IMO, and is also flickable in multiple ways. Thumb. Middle finger. Any finger really. I can pinky flick mine and it will not fail to open. I've gone back and forth on having a flipper delete on the Arius, but the flipper is a joy to use on the koenig. Koenig's are coming up on the exchange at good prices pretty frequently. With patience, you shouldn't have too much trouble getting your preferred configuration around $700 or below.

Prepare to fall down the rabbit hole.

"Well if I've already paid this much for a knife, I guess it makes sense to buy this one..."
This. The spending desensitizes you to bigger purchases. While I'm flicking a rosie (purchased direct at least).

I have started my collection with some ZT, spyderco and Benchmade knives
My first CRK has been a big step in my journey
Nowadays I think my favorite knives are my Arius.

I like the ergonomics, flipper and non flipper versions are good
The hollow grind makes them good slicers
The action is very good

IMO the CF and textured versions are a plus for the Arius but that is personal taste here

The pocket clip is ok
If you have thick jeans it can be not so good

This is exactly my progression. The arius is phenomenal.

I've looked at the Roosevelt and Lamnia.
Sorry, but they're just not my aesthetic cup of tea like the Arius, which is sexy as hell.
What else is comparable to the Holt and Koenig?
Oh, I have a big bias toward USA Made knives!
Keep them comments coming folks!
Thanks again.

Just get the Arius. The biggest complaint you'll see about it is that people aren't fans of the aesthetics. Even those people will concede the ergos and the quality. The ergos are perfect. The fit and finish are top notch. So if you like the appearance, I say it's a done deal.

And then addiction. You can't really go wrong with either of them. Both are good user designs. The non-flipper Arius is tuned to perfection for reverse-flicking, has great ergonomics, and it's lighter than it looks. Both sides are milled on the inside. Only complaint is it does feel like the front choil was a bit of an afterthought because it was. Still works great and I prefer the non-flipper but it just doesn't have the made-for-your-hand feel that the rest of the handle does.

The Haptic is one of the best flippers I own. I've heard that the rest of the Holt lineup is the same but this is the one that doesn't look like someone's 1st knife design. I honestly don't have anything bad to say about it. It's quality and about as space efficient as it can be.

I'm jonesing for an FSD Mini. They are in the same category and have a good reputation, and can be opened using the long nail nick. For me, not living near anywhere that I can try any of these, it is kinda going in blind.

Why don't you try collecting handmade knives instead of mass produced goods?

That would make a unique collection.
