looking to buy a case junior scout most likely in stag. anyone have any insight as to pros/cons. or maybe another model?

i usualy have a sak on me but looking for something more traditional...

thanx

My only suggestion would be to try it in CV steel. You already have a decent stainless in the SAK, so a good Carbon steel would be a nice contract. Every streak of color will tell a story, and bring back a memory, and the edges get crazy sharp, and stay that way a while. Otherwise, you almost can't go wrong with a Case slipjoint, as long as you find one that appeals to you personally. Have fun!

after searching around I think the baby butterbeen is cool. found one in devin t dam so i might buy that first then do a jr scout. it'd be my first knife in damascus

Double post. Anyways, If it's a Case you can't lose. Those little scouts look nice.

that's a nice one & I like the little blade as well as the pinched bolsters. no bail is a bummer though I don't know if I'd use it anyway

Those Case scout knives look to be very well made. I have been carrying a Remington scout from the 80's, and picked up a John Primble scout made by Boker, and an old Robeson Shuredge scout. Watch out, it can be addictive, I'm looking for old Remingtons now.

Check out Victorinox and Boker anniversary editions, very good looking and well made folders. A little pricey though ;).

I have the Case scout jr. Its a very well made knife. Its a little small though, kind of strange they do a small one instead of a big one when they just do one. The size gives some problems, Like: The caplifter is so small its a little tricky to open bottles with it and the canopener is short and give in my opinion to little leverage when used. As far as I know they just come in true sharp and not CV. If you bye it bear in mind that this is a small knife

I thought it looked like a small knife but then again so does the baby butterbean. I'm wondering if the bb is worth the 120 in damascus for being so small? if I found a canoe in dam that might be better as I'm really liking the looks of rain drop and stag...

the boker scout is a nice option which I'm looking into...

I used to own a Case Junior scout in stag a while ago. The size was fine. A little small but OK. It isn't nearly as small as a butterbean. I liked it but for one thing; the bail. The bail had a tendency to fold over and get in the way when closing the main blade causing the edge to roll where it struck it. I had to be conscious of keeping the bail out of the way when closing it and after a while I got rid of it as my SAKs didn't have that issue and it was basically a more expensive SAK with stag scales. Still nice though. Supposedly (according to a response to a question I sent Case) this model has bushings and so the main blade feels a bit different when opening and closing it than some other knives. It doesn't snap as hard as a SAK, that is.

Lastly, if you are going to get one maybe take a look at the G-10 versions. I saw a red G-10 Junior Scout that reminded me of custom rescaled SAK for some reason. There might also be an orange G-10 model. I really like orange G-10. :-)

yeah orange g-10 is pretty cool... I'm going to hit the flea market this weekend to see if I can find some to see in person
