Thinner RC-5?

Not to be one of "those guys"...but someone posted in WSS that at BLADE, Jeff mentioned a thinner version of the RC-5 SERE was being considered. I'm hoping for an RC version of the RAT-5. Any hints?

My question is: "why?"

Seriously, you'll have the RC-4 and RC-6.

Do you really think that having a blade 1" longer than an RC-4 will make it that much more useful, or 1.5" shorter than the RC-6 that much handier?

I'm not jumping down your throat, they're serious questions.

The blade is only half the knife. The other half is handle. The RAT-5 is nearly perfect for me, except it isn't an RC. :D

But again I'll ask, why not just go for the RC-6? it's 1.5" longer blade, and the same handle (minus the pocket for bow drilling).

I'm perfectly happy with the RC4 (I guess that's why I've already bought 3), but a thinner RC5, if it still had a sabre grind would make it interesting. If a blade has enough height a sabre grind allows it to be both relatively thin and still tough enough for prying and other non-cutting chores.

Like I said, the RAT-5 is about perfect in proportions for me. The blade on my RAT-7 is actually only 1.75" longer than the 5, but the difference in balance and handiness makes them wholly different knives.

After all the RC blades are into production RAt cutlery will Re-Vamp There older Line-up to include the RAT 5-7/TAK ETC....and even pre Ontario Days blades the Greco....TOPs....Livesay..but that is way..way down the road....

OK, I'll buy that.

A agree, the RAT5 is perfect in every way regarding dimensions... RAT7 is a little unwieldy. I'm still pretty stoked about the SERE model, though!

I'm interested in the SERE, because it looks like it's got handles more likely to fit my paws. I really like how they seem to have brought the edge down closer to the handle, too. The low-ish grind and thickness worry me.

I am not sure everyone in this thread understands the diference between an R5-SERE and a RAT-5. They are quite diferent from whjat I have seen. A R5-SERE is not an RC-5, at least not in the pictures shown so far. I have a pre-order in for an R5-SERE. I already have a RAT-3 (D2), RAT-7 (D2), TAK1 (D2), RC-4, RTAKII. A RAT-5 (D2) would be here if not for the little discussions between the owners and the makers.
