Just curious as to what the thinnest AD is. The more I've carried them lately, the more I think this is "my" carry knife so to speak. I like carrying them better than GW's and Meaners are a little too long in the tooth sometimes at work. I'd like to start picking up more AD's, and I'm kicking myself for passing on one that my Knob Creek proxy offered me. How thick were the LE's and other satins? Thanks for any info!

The thinnest I have seen are the older AD with Snake slabs.
Mine is just under .15

Of the newer ones the customs are .17 and so was the SE.

But functionally the thinnest is this Blk/Tan custom it is .17 stock but the thickest part of the blade you'd cut with is .135

EDIT- whoops, I though you were talking about a GW

My satin/snake is .150 like Tony said.

Thanks for the info Tony  I'm gonna have to start looking for some older snake AD's. The couple that I use now are mic'ing out at .197 and .195 and I've been of the opinion that a thinner one would be a new favorite user.

Edit: Thanks Kenny! You guys know where a fella could score a thin AD? (wink wink)

There should be an AD like that B/Tan in the next Ganzaaaa. The part of the blade that is .17 is just from the choil back to the slabs.

That will be thinner than any others I have seen.

I have only the one Dan. I still need another...there so nice I NEED a back up.

I found mine way, way back in a trade thread, he still had it. You can try a WTB post but that never did me any good on one.

If I do happen to hear of one I'll let you know Dan. Good luck!

edit- I'm going for one in the Ganza like Tony suggested, may not look as good as the Snake but it will be obtainable

I'm curious as to what those flat gound AD's are like in the upcoming ganzaa. I passed on the satin/olive drab one from Knob Creek and I'm kicking myself for not just taking it. :o

Thanks for the info guys!

Same knife is in Jerry's Ganza pic's. Think I'll go for one, should be .170, or .150 if we get lucky. Wish they could tell the specs on the ganza's.

edit-looks kinda grey, kinda green if it's the one you speak of

Bear in mind that the original ADs have a saber grind while these latest customs sport full flats. That will tend to make them have roughly the same primary thickness behind the edge even though they are thicker at the spine.

Is that a Batac, or a SJ at the bottom?

Another approach would be to put a full-height grind on one of your .195's. If flat, that would be roughly 10*, vs. roughly 13* on the .150 saber grind.

A shallow, full-height hollow grind on the .195 would out-cut the .150 saber all day long. It would also taper more quickly out toward the tip. The saber grind carries its thickness quite a ways out the blade.

I was going to post that. I took some measurements and the new flat grind knives I have that are .17 stock don't hit .15 until very high on the blade.

On this knife the blade thickness does not hit .15 until the top of the "B" in Busse.

My Satin/Olive Drab G10 AD from Knob Creek measures .173 at the thickest part of the blade.

Not sure on the Mag part. It is the only BATAC I have so I'm not sure.

If it's the same as the one I have, it's got mags. Not sure if they even came with standard handles in that combo. Did you get it from Stinky?

Thanks for that info. Did yours look more grey or more greenish? They looked grey in the knob creek pics. I know Xaman got one and said his looked more grey.

Xaman told me grey also, but I guess the tag said "olive drab". Looked grey to me.
