Well this is my third in a series of many more hehe :) I made this one for my brother , he wanted a simple cutter he could use when he goes off roading.
I made it sort of burly for hard use.

D2 steel - OAL is 7 1/4 in. Blade is 3 1/4 in.. 1/8 thick. Bubinga scales , a slightly different etch I tried , the actual grind was left rough polished (this I still have to practice tons on). Brass pins and thong hole (I always feel uneasy saying that) lol.
I did some pretty fancy filework on the spine , sort of hard to see in the pic , made my brother's initials as well , filework is filled in with a mix of "bonding agent" (doing air quotes like Dr. Evil) and pine flour/ebony flour for contrast. Sclaes finished with several coats of tung. Still have to make a sheath. Nice and sharp  :)
Oh and the knife pic... I took like 25 pics , only one of which didnt turn out blurry , boy was I mad , anyway.. "Knife brace" is a pretty hunk of Chechen Rosewood.

So , tell me what ya think ? Am I on the road or should I quit while I'm ahead lol :D

Does your brother eat a lot of toast, sure looks like a good butter knife. :D
I'm just kidding, it looks real good to me, I would just prefer a more pointy blade. But we all have are own preferences when it comes to knife shapes. Keep up the good work.

Bill

Thanks for the comments guys :) (only two out of 150 ?? come on folks at least tell me it looksfunny if you think so :D )
I made that sort of a Wharncliffe/sheepsfoot design , almost like my last one , my next couple of projects have points
I have a lot to learn on grind angles still and finish.... other than that I think it turned out not too shabby hehe.
Thanks.

Hey man...Thats got a good look to it. Nice! Maybe counter sink the thong hole a little and roundover the handle more closer to the ricasso. Looks like awesome wood!!

I think the blade would match the beefy handle more if it was chisel or tanto shaped with a chisel grind. Then again, I'm not a big wharcliff fan :)

I think that's a smart blade shape for an off roader! You guys should think long and hard about its sheath too, wouldn't want it bouncing out or cutting a new way out... Nice work for a third knife, thanks for sharing and keep em coming!

That butter knife crack was not so far from the truth in a way. I met a knife user who showed me a similar blade shape he designed. His reason was so that when he went hicking he wanted to get the last bit of peanut butter from the bottom of the container with his knife.

He said it worked well. The ultimate test of a knife is did it do what you wanted it to do. If you look at arabic knives or asian knives they look funny to me but just what you want to cut through the jungle.. I'm talking asian jungle not arabic sand.

The workman ship looks good for knife 3. The shape looks custom not a knock off. Well done.

No knifemaker I know started out making a great knife. We all started out making some pretty strange looking stuff. My third knife was a whole lot uglier by far.
I am happy to see that you are not getting your designs from the cover of the current knife publication. "without deviation from the norm, progress is not possible" Make another. Fred :D :D

I can only imagine how far ahead this puts you from anyone who has yet to make thier first knife. I mean you know how the biggest share of people who read a book do not finish it? How many people who try knifemaking do not finish the first one? To be on your third means you are probably hopelessly afflicted with this disease we call knifemaking...Enjoy!
