Still a little work left.

Since I shot these photos I've started shaping the handle. There is a slight taper front to rear.

I'll add more photos as I make more progress.

Comments welcome.

Is there a sharpened edge on it? I learned the hard way that sharpening is the last thing you do before putting it in the sheath. I was a little slow on the uptake with that lesson, 3 knives 3 nice slices:o

It's not as sharp as it looks. But I will keep that in mind.

Looking at the photos I was gonna suggest rounding those handle edges a tad. lol
You might want to take a look at knives by Nathan (silver_pilate) for a nice shape for the scales on this type of knife.
Keep up the good work!

The Micarta and wood used were left over from other projects.

I know it isn't perfect, far from it. After looking at the photos of the "finished" knife I can see little flaws (that I can't see with my old weak eyes) that I must fix.

Oh, I do like the colors of that handle. Could we see how the liners turned out too, please?

You betcha. Photos included above.

I've grown kinda partial to the bloodwood. the handle material was left over form other projects. there was just enough for this knife.

do you think the pins are too far apart?

is the blade too long for the handle?

opinions on blade and handle shape?

should I bead blast the blade?

thanks

there is a little nick on the spacer on the under side that I have to deal with.

there are some sanding marks on the finger groove that I must remove.

from the photos it looks like there is a gap between the spacer and the blade but there isn't.

and there is a little spot near the front pin that broke out when drilling that I missed. I'll have to deal with that, too.

I need a smaller stamp for the "Z" and it shouldn't be so close to the edge.

I also have to polish the pins a bit more to remove sanding marks.

Well, it is just for practice and was never intended to be sold.

anyone see anything else?

on the plus side I did get the spacer between the wood and micarta lined up (side-to-side/ top and bottom).

the micarta lines up on both sides.

no gaps

everything looks to be symetrical from side-to-side.

No, I think you need a third pin in the middle, or move the current pin to the middle and add a lanyard hole where the back pin is now. I think you could have gotten by with two pins if you hadn't put the bolster on, but the bolster looks real nice. I'm gonna have to try that.

is the blade too long for the handle?

No.

opinions on blade and handle shape?

I'm good at opinions, I got lots of them. ;-)
It's a nice looking just as it sits, but what if... what if you had scooped more of the handle out after the finger notch? Right now you have the finger notch and then a sliiiiight upward curve on the bottom of the handle. I'm suggesting increasing that curve, especially nearer the finger notch.

should I bead blast the blade?

Why? What did it ever do to you?
Seriously, no. What do you think you'd gain from it?

Nice job,

Thanks much for you comments. I do appreciate it.

do you think the pins are too far apart? Not at all.
is the blade too long for the handle? No it's a nice balance
opinions on blade and handle shape? I like them both, looks user-friendly
should I bead blast the blade? Heck no.

Keep at it, you're doing very well  One thing that stands out to me, your cutting edge comes nice and close to the handle on all those knives, that's good. I don't care for a big ricasso on a small/medium knife one bit. Wasted space if you ask me.
