Hello BF,

Since I don't wish to ship my SOG Terminus XR knife to the United States, I was curious if anybody knows of somebody who would(or could) make me replacement XR lock springs and ship them to Canada?

Thank you,

Gideons

I think these use omega type springs that are identical to those used by benchmade. If so, then there are people that make and sell these. One is on a popular auction site. There are generally 2 sizes. If I saw an image of the terminus xr springs, then I’d probably be able to tell if they are the small or large size. Hope that helps.

I wish they used the same springs, however they're a different shape and length then the Benchmade springs. I have an old picture before it broke comparing the omega spring to the XR lock spring.

I bought some omega springs from a seller that makes them on eBay. Well made and price was great, I bought than I needed for back up.
Cheaper than trying to make myself.

I see. I wonder if the small omega springs would still work.

Just 2 days ago, I replaced my Sog Spec Elite ii springs with replacement omega springs and they’re great so far.

What knife uses the "small" omega springs, I would think the bugout would use the smallest omega springs. Got any pictures of the springs you used?

The bugout does indeed use the small omega springs. If you look on the auction site or Etsy, the makers of these classify them in 2 size groups (large, small).

I used large because I didn’t know better beforehand. The small ones would have fit more appropriately, but the large ones fit as well.

I would have to cut to make the spring smaller and reshape the small omega spring for it to fit then, which I guess I could eventually give that a try if nothing else works.

I posted something on this thread because i got mixed up with this one. Since, the knife is relatively not that expensive, why not risk it by sending it for warranty? Either way, if it gets seized and/or you can't find the replacement spring you're looking for, you can probably off buying a brand new since it served you well already. Unless, it has some sentimental attachments to it.

Well, while this may be unfounded (or it could be a genuine concern as this is something that definitely would show up) I have done work and may do work in the future that requires a security clearance, and I'm unsure if having multiple seized packages for what the CBSA calls "weapons" could be a problem or at least set off a red flag which can cause the approval process to be quite long and difficult.

Right, IIRC you have had a Mordax seized already...

I’ve seen spring stock for sale , that you can cut and bend at the ends to fashion your own springs. That might be the way to go.

I believe it’s stainless steel memory wire.

This does seem like the best route most likely. Probably will research some DIY Benchmade Omega spring guides and then modify them to fit the XR lock.

There are several different threads here on the forum in reference to making DIY omega springs. Some people actually like their DIY springs better than the BenchMade factory ones . Good luck
