Hi all,

Well, they say the third times a charm... so here we go again :).

Meet Mouse... he is a Chocolate male Labradoodle (first generation or F1, shaggy coat), currently 4 weeks old, from www.bigskydoodle.com near Butte, MT. He should be ready to come home around the 4th of Jul. He is named after the lead character's "dog" in the Dresdan Files series of books by Jim Butcher.

What he'll look like when around a year old (not the best photo):

I'm really looking forward to having a dog in the house again. I almost got another one from his litter, or one of the other litters at the breeders (a GoldenDoodle), but they all sold out. They won't have any pups until late this year, so it'll just be Mouse and me (along with Sadie the Labradoodle and Allie the grumpy Scottish Terrier at my girlfriend's).

I'll be going in for shoulder surgery next week, so hopefully I'll be healed up in time for Mouse's move in date!

Nice looking pup, AC. I'm glad you've found him. Here's to lots of joy for you both.

On the other hand-sorry to hear about your shoulder. I definitely hope that your surgery and recovery go well. And don't slouch on the therapy in recovery. It can make a world of difference.

All the best to you.

Congrats on a new pup Alan, sure looks like you made an excellent choice. I've seen Labradoodles advertised in our newspaper and have seen the puppy pics but never an older pup or young/old dog. Even from your pic it's very apparent that they're quite elegant dogs, ainnit. :D

Congrat's on finding Mouse, having the puppy pic's are a great way to remind yourself that although dogs grow in body, some of them keep their puppy mindset all life-long, as is the case with my Ridgeback.

If you are anything like me, I bet Mouse gets called 'Buddy' at those time he retreats to inappropriate behaviour's or when out of habit in the heat of the moment the old familiar name is the first that comes to your tongue. :o I find this comforting in that it recalls the memories of the one now gone and which can't be replaced while reminding me of the uniqueness of the new canine companion. :)

Hope your shoulder is fully healed in time for the new pup's arrival.

Oh, and please post heaps of photo's of Mouse as he grows. :D

Great name for a good looking dog. I love the Dresden files. Butcher has done a great job keeping Harry fresh and he keeps growing as a character throughout the series. How did you like "Changes"?

Thanks all. I'm really stoked. I've been making lists of stuff I want/need to get before his arrival.

....If you are anything like me, I bet Mouse gets called 'Buddy' at those time he retreats to inappropriate behaviour's or when out of habit in the heat of the moment the old familiar name is the first that comes to your tongue.... B.C. I've actually done that with the girlfriend  LOL. Although it wasn't funny at the moment. Using the ex-girlfriend's name in a moment of inappropriate behavior is never a good thing....

Ted, I read 'Changes' about a month ago and loved it. I'm not positive, but I think it was the best of the series to date. I won't say more until I know you've read it :).

I am pretty sure my shoulder surgery will go just fine. I've got an experienced doc and one of the up-and-coming docs doing the surgery.

On another note, my other doc ran a ton of blood work earlier this week to troubleshoot some memory issues, etc., I've been having. I got a call today that I have a severe B12 deficiency . I've been getting a bit worried about what was going on... especially with my Mom's early-onset Alzheimer's in my family history. After much surfing, it looks like the B12 might be the culprit. Don't know how serious it is yet, but should find out Monday. I've got to start a regiment of B12 shots (once a day for a week... once a week for a month... then monthly). I've got an appointment on Wed. to go over the test results, so it isn't the usual "your tests were fine" phone call. I hate getting old.

THAT is why the puppy is so important. He'll remind me to stay young at heart (and get my butt out playing)!!

I actually got to read it a couple weeks before it was released. I agree it is the best in the series so far. There are a couple short stories coming out this year that pick up where this left off.

Side Jobs: Stories From the Dresden Files This is from Murphy's POV 45 minutes after the end of "Changes"

Dark and Stormy Knights

I loved when Harry can understand what Mouse is saying and starts to realize how intelligent/powerful he really is.

Thanks for the notice of the short stories Ted. I haven't signed onto Butcher's web site for a while and didn't know they were coming out.

I've been waiting for the other short ones to come out for the iPad... but I'm definitely going to have to get the paper ones too. I bought an electronic version of Changes to read for a trip I had to take to San Diego (I hate flying), but now wish I had the hardcover for my collection.

The whole Mouse storyline is probably one of my favorite parts of the series.

Got to read it before release? I'm jealous :D.

That is a nice looking bed. I'll add it to my list of stuff to look at. I'll be out of commission for about a week healing up from my surgery, so ordering everything for Mouse will keep me from being bored.

Now if I can just figure out how to build his dog house with one arm:D.

DOG HOUSE!?!?!?

You make your best friend sleep outside??

Naw... he'll sleep inside with me. It is so he'll have some shelter during the day when I'm at work. It is much nicer outside than inside during the summer :). I've got a very nice fenced yard, but just in case a thunderstorm pops up, he'll have a hidey hole to ride it out. Heck, he was going to come to work with me over the summer, but the school district changed their insurance policy and won't allow dogs on the property any more.

Here's what I'm thinking of building (the deluxe version of course):

The Mouse is in the house! I tested my endurance with one arm (my right arm is in a sling for the next month with specific orders NOT to use it while recovering from my surgery) and drove up to Whitehall, MT yesterday and got Mouse. He was great coming home, basically sleeping in the passenger footwell of Elizabeth's car for the trip back. He is already house training for the most part. I just have to get used to puppy hours and not getting much sleep :P

Cool thing... he has green eyes! I hope they stay that color (it matches his coat really well), but I expect they will probably change to a light golden color. He'll be 8 weeks old on the 12th (mom weened the litter at 4 weeks).

Here are some photos we took last night:

He looks good! I'm impressed. To be honest, I thought he'd be kinda vacuous (dumb), but it looks like he's got something going on in those eyes! I'm happy to be wrong sometimes. :)

Hope your surgery went well! As has been mentioned, don't skimp on the phys therapy, it will pay for itself many times over if done right.

Congrats on a great new friend! Y'all have fun now, ya hear?

Thanks guys. Mouse has impressed me in just two days. He is already house broken (relief), and LOVES to sit outside in the yard.

Surgery went well and my recovery is going good too. I find out Tuesday if my boss will let me come back light-duty or if I'll have to stay on extended sick leave for 3 more weeks . At least I get a trip down to Huston for training at full pay!

Happy 4th everyone!!!
