I was going to make some long winded joke about my sudden, explosive interest in art supplies and stationery supplies, but it was too long winded. So! Here's the deal. Fisher Space Pen came out of the lab, and lo and behold, a new pen was in their hands. What kind of pen, you might ask? The special kind. So special, that, apparently, it will, so long as the pen is not lost, crushed, destroyed, or compromised crucially in terms of the ink reservoir, last as long as you will live. Supposedly.

I am skeptical, and, to be honest, not finding the price tag to be very worth the result. But! If I were not skeptical about the ink cartridge's lifespan when used OUTSIDE of 'normal useage' (whatever 'normal usage' is?!?!), if I were not afraid I would lose it even if relegated to desk pen duty, think of the possibilities! You would always and evermore, have a pen on you. Even in the afterlife, potentially? It would be the ultimate EDC, in a way.

Well, that's all she wrote. And, for inquiring minds, the pen is made by Fisher, and is called the Infinium, as a play on the word infinite...how imaginative? Peace.

The Fisher Space Bullet Pen Price $15 USD
I have three (3) Fisher Space (Bullet model) Pens and I like them. Actually they write like a Bic pen which is OK. Uni-Ball and Pilot write much better/smoother. I love the idea though: A pen that can write under any weather condition (freezing cold, extreme heat), underwater, upside down, and in space (zero gravity).
My pens are still writing but I heard the ink does run out and when close to running out the pen skips badly. Since each refill of ink costs $5 USD through their website I don't think I will be using my Fisher Space Pens after they run out of ink. Maybe my pens won't run out of ink and that will make me a happy man in Heaven.
Note: This pen is small and that makes it a little uncomfortable for people with large hands.

Many, many people love these Fisher Space pens and so I think you should get one just to check it out. The Fisher Space Infinium Pen (below picture) is a $100 - $150 USD pen! I will definitely not be buying one of those.

No kidding. That's quite a bit of dough for not a lot of bread. Actually, I love Fisher Space Pen's and I have a bullet pen myself, (just the plain matte black). I'm not questioning their claim that, under normal use, the pen could potentially last a lifetime. What I am questioning...is what on Earth is normal use? And why would anyone pay that much for such a dubious, finnicky, uncertain claim-to-fame as that? That's all I'm wondering. Fisher makes a great pen, (a rather heavy pen too, all things considered. The Bullet pen is like a condensed brick...for its size, it is very nice-ly heavy and stabilizing), hopefully this claim is as true as the underwater testing I pulled off with my pen.
Anyway, yeah, the refills for Space Pens are absurdly expensive, I agree. Peace.

I was in college when the Fisher Space pens were said to run empty so maybe student use is not normal? To me that is normal use but I'm not working for Fisher advertizing.
Don't get me wrong about the Fisher Space Infinium Pen Gorog. A Montblanc Meisterstuck Classic Ballpoint Pen goes for $370 USD and I wouldn't buy one of those super pens either.

My problem is that from time to time I lose pens do to my forgetfulness at 49 years of age. If I lost the Fisher or a Montblanc Ballpoint Pen I would scream NNNOOOOoooooooo!

I feel that I just 'MIGHT' have been a little bit ill conceived in writing this whole spiel on the pen to begin with. I don't think it was very appropriate for this kind of niche in the forum, and, much as I love to talk, sometimes, you can talk and say a whole lot of nothing. I'll leave this open in case someone finds it interesting enough to comment on, but if anyone wants it closed, don't hesitate to ask.

i've got a diplomat space pen. 'diplomat' made fischer space pens under license, and continue to make pens to fit the fischer refills. i'm forever losing pen caps, or the pens themselves while walking around. this one is a twist action, no cap, and can be added to your keychain or fitted with a lanyard (i added a lanyard - too many keys on my keyring). hasn't run out of ink yet. when it does i'll likely get a new cartridge as they theoretically last 3x longer than a std. pen. the £5 price is not too bad. i don't write that much anyhow, this one might last a lifetime (if i don't lose it or have it stolen). the extended pen is 10.5 cm (4.125 in.) which is just long enough.

the infinium is supposed to last 30 miles, regular space pen 3 miles, std pen 1 mile. so 10 refills at around £/$5 =50, still cheaper than an infinium. (the uk pound = 1.5 us dollars +/-, prices of US stuff sold over here are not generally converted, they just change the symbol from a $ to a £ & leave the number unchanged. - so we pay a 50% premium)
