Don't try dropping a tree in such close quarters with only an axe.

There's a sure fire way to get your adrenaline flowing, especially if it's you own house and shed.

I caught that on FB also. My first thought was that if you pull off a drop like that you need to play it cool and make it look like you never had any question as to the outcome. Dropping to your knees and raising your arms to the heavens leads your audience to believe maybe you had some doubt about your probability of success.

Riiiiight... like walking away calmly with explosions going off behind you.
This guy wouldn't have taken the job if he lacked confidence. But there's no question it was a risky job.

Oh, man. That's pure awesomeness right there. I think he erred towards the shed, which makes sense.

Can he do that all the time? Now that would be amazing!

I bet he can. That looked like a repeatable fell to me. If you know what you are doing, you have a healthy, well balanced tree, and no wind; the hinge is extremely effective at putting the tree right where you want it. Not saying that I would dare do it, but a pro can make wildly predictable drops. There's always the exceptions though!!!

This just happened yesterday up in my area. The tree was reportedly a 40 in diameter fir. The crew felling it were pros, the hinge was good, but it fell opposite the way it was intended. The best laid plans.....

I wonder if they were using wedges...?

Yes ...using wedges alright, and plenty of them. A good job completely spoilt by the childish actions at the end.

Hi Frank! I actually was wondering about the crew that Alocksly was referring to.

I did think it was odd that he (guy in OP video) was pounding on wedges while his saw bar was sitting in the kerf.
