This Guy is gonna GET what he deserves...
Yeah made up my mind this morning!
Having just received my Surface grinder the other day was in search for some new wheels. Checked the usual places Fleabay, MSC Etc and just decided to try locally.
Got on the Puter and looked up Machine shops in Phoenix
Made a few calls no luck. Came across a place that does only surface grinding.
Explained what a nube I was and the guys say come on over I may have a few stone's I can sell ya.
Doesn't know me from Adam but seemed very nice.
One man shop loaded with machines and clutter (Kinda like my shop) invite's me in and hands over three new 7" Norton wheels for $50. Asks me if I have a Diamond for dressing them Uhh no my answer. Rumages thru a drawer and hands me a new one and says here you will need this
Just about to leave and then we start talking knives, up till then I was just a stranger.
Spent another hour there enjoying the conversation, said my thanks and left.
He earned himself a Nice Bowie without even a hint of asking for a knife.
"Got Er Done". Hope he likes it
Mods feel free to move this if it doesn't fit, just want to share a story.

Great story. VERY nice looking knife. As the saying goes, Strangers are friends we haven't met yet.

Sometimes being a decent human being pays off. Nice lookin Bowie. I'm sure he'll be surprised and appreciative.

Nice Story,

gave me a little goose bump actually.
I do believe that people are generally good.
I applaud the other guy for being a generally good person, giving without asking for anything. And... applaud you for being able to acknowlege and return the kindness that man has shown.

Best,

KEN

way to go Robert. That will be worth more to him than any job he ever got paid for. Oh, and you'll never have to pay for a pc. to get ground that is to big for your grinder.

It will take a long time to use up them wheels but when you do I bet he gives you the next one. cool story.

Fantastic story, It is obvious it meant a great deal to you and I am positive that it must mean a great deal to him. Probably one of the, if not the customer highlight of his career. I do take exception to your nube comment, I think that knife pretty much disqualifies you from the nube club from now on. I will alert the nube chairman.

Great Bowie!

...I don't have any grinding wheels, but have I mentioned what a smart and handsome man you are?

Thanks H2h907 See you live in Alaska... ;)
Hear tales of some nice handle material hanging around up there!

If you really don't know anything about surface grinding, you might want to hire the guy to come over and help you get started. Surface grinders are potentially deadly machines. The stones need to be checked for cracks before use and they nee to be balanced on the hubs before use.
