I'm in Wyoming on a business trip. This morning I was sitting out in front of the hotel drinking my morning coffee and watching the world go by. A young girl came out of the coffee shop at the hotel with her coffee in hand and went to her pick up truck. She got in, and backed out of her parking space right into another car in the parking lot, making a loud crunching noise. She got out, walked back and looked at the damage to the front left corner of the parked car. She then got back into her pick up truck and pulled back into her parking space, which led me to believe that she was going to go find the owner of the other car that she had just hit.

Instead, she then backed out the other way, and drove off. I was too far away to see her license plate, but a man and woman that were loading their luggage in their car were close enough to get most of it. I stood there thinking that someone at the hotel was going to have a real bad morning and would be real pissed off. I walked into the lobby and gave them the license number of the car that had been hit. They pulled the paper work on it, and said that the poor guy was Scott Ickes. Well hell, that's me. I had forgotten where I had parked my rental car, and had witnessed her hitting my car.

The police came and took a report from me, the workers in the coffee shop and the couple that had also witnessed it. They found her within a half an hour. She had a suspended license, no insurance and was driving her mothers car. The police cited her for the suspended license, and no insurance and also hit and run. Her mother told the police that she had permission from her to drive the truck, so they cited the mother for knowingly letting someone drive her vehicle illegally.

How's that for starting a day. I watched my rental car get hit, and didn't even realize it was mine. It's been an interesting day!!!

Were you distracted by a pair of tight fitting Levi's and a cowgirl hat?

Besides, If you had known at the instant of impact, that the auto was, indeed, your responsibility, it would have just ruined that fine cup of coffee you were enjoying. There is usually a silver lining if you look close enough.

I imagine that the rental car companies could wright a book filled with bizarre
stories. I think I'll Google that.

Hope you have a better day today, Fred :jerkit:

Your reaction should have been just a shrug of the shoulders and the comment "it's only a rental car " !!

It looks just like something that could have happened to me, buddy!

Well, I chased down a copy of the police report and the rental car accident report and sent them to my companies insurance company. I've been told that I'll be completely out of it now. We have an excellent lease car department and a great insurance company to deal with. When I took the rental car back to the airport, they gave me a ride back to my hotel at no charge. I'm friends with one of the clerks at the rental company, and we couldn't help but just laugh about it.

It's just a car, so it ain't no big thing. I am renting another car from the same place next Wednesday. When I told her that I needed to rent another car next week, she told me she was going to check the newspaper sports page to see if there was a demolition derby that I was planning to enter with that one. Nice sense of humor, if you ask me.

I'll probably get that same car back when I get back there again this next week. Wouldn't that be funny?
