It is with great reluctance, I announce my retirement from sheath making.

First, I want thank the hundreds of fine folks who supported me in this endeavor

in the knife community for the last 25 years. I made my first Blade Show in 1998,

and that kicked everything off. I was totally unknown at that time, and I'm still amazed

at how things grew exponentially from there. My hands are shaky, and my eyes are

not what they used to be, and my main concern is with all that, the quality of my work

may be declining to the point that I could disappoint. I will NOT let that happen.

I don't have an accurate count, but records show that I have something over

10,000 sheaths out there world wide

So once again my heart felt thanks to all of you who supported me all these years.

The great number of new true friends I have made is the greatest bonus of all.

THANK YOU ALL!!!

Edited to add: I should have mentioned originally, but even though I have retired

I will still be available to offer advice or explain my methods to anyone interested.

I'm as close as your phone. Contact information is in the sig line below.

Well, hell, I'll say it if nobody else will. Nobody likes a quitter. Half as good as you once were will be just as good as almost everybody else. You are only 90, now rub some dirt on it and get back out there cowboy.

Anybody think ^^^ that will work?

Mr. Long, all I can really say is thank you for everything, the leather, the conversations, those CPK orders we did, just knowing I'd have a place to stop in Kerrville, TX if I ever made it through that way, all of it. Your efforts have done nothing but enhance the experience for all of us that have crossed your path. Again, thank you. - Marc

Well deserved rest ahead. You have left a treasured body of work that will serve for years - even a generation or 2 - more to come and have become a legend. Not too shabby. ;) Thanks much for your efforts on behalf of all the Knife Knuts. Enjoy this next phase. All the best to you.

Congratulations, sheathmaker sheathmaker !
I hope you enjoy a long retirement.
You certainly reached legendary status around here in no time.
Having admired your work through pictures, I jumped at the chance to buy a knife I didn’t need because it came with a left handed Paul Long sheath. I didn’t really have the money at the time but I wanted the sheath pretty bad.
It all worked out for me on that deal. I was able to keep the sheath and recuperate my money selling the knife.
The sheath will be cherished.
Thank you for all your contributions around here. I’ve heard many other sheath makers expound on your willingness to help them out. I hope you’ll still hang around and continue to pass that knowledge on.
Best wishes!

Congratulations on your retirement, and thank you for all you've done for the knife community. I wish you the very best in your retirement and hope to see you around here.

Congratulations, enjoy your retirement. We have never meet other than through this forum but I can tell you that by sharing your talented skill with leather I have learned a lot.
