This has been a while coming...but worth the wait!

In 2015 or so I first saw the Bark River Wilderness Explorer at KSF and was smitten. What a gorgeous shape for a knife. I appreciate utility but aesthetics always play a big role in the knives I like. Unfortunately, it was sold out. I phoned Bark River and asked if it would be made again, but the person said it was up to the dealers to request it - i.e. a matter of demand.

Well, last year I saw there was a new run of them and I bookmarked one in Red and Gold Elder Burl. For months I looked at it - one day it was gone! (The reason for holding back is the pathetic exchange rate - we pay more than 30% here in Canada for the knife than you do in the States. There are a few Bark Rivers up here, but not the kind of variety there is in buying from the U.S.)

Well, I finally pulled the trigger and got it in this week. Paying that much for a knife made me a little nervous but when it arrived the fit and finish was fantastic! Here are some pics:

The knife to the left of the finger is the Wilderness knife in Bob Loveless' shop.

Fresh from the wrapping. Dark Curly Maple with red liners and brass pins.

Red liners are darker than they looked in the pictures at the dealer, looks very sharp.

Oil still on the blade from shipping.

Slicing up some semi-frozen beef for my wife - this thing is an incredible slicer!

Sheath is very robust, looking forward to trying the horizontal carry option

Glad I finally pulled the trigger on this beautiful knife which I will use for camping and canoeing.

Beautiful knife...glad you were able to get one...
It should serve you (and your kids) very well forever.
Are these still in D2? nice steel.

It is Cruwear. Sharpest knife I have ever received by far. I had a Magnum Fox River which is actually quite similar in shape, but was much thicker and 6.25 inch blade where this is 5.7.

This blade is thinner, .156 inches, with a fabulous convex grind.

Handle feels like it was made for my large-sized but skinny hands.

Glad to see it was worth the wait and extra money.
It all makes sense when you have it in hand and it brings a smile to your face.

CruWear is an awesome steel for a knife like that. It’ll handle every job you throw at it. Horizontal carry is excellent as long it sits well on the body. I’ve had one or two with sheaths set up for it, but it just wasn’t comfortable for me. That looks like it could go either way, and it’d be dependent on the person too.

Very nice Dave! Great size for an all arounder.
You know you’re going to need to take it off when you go to bed.:D

Gorgeous! But yeah, the Canadian peso, a.k.a. the Loonie, is a problem when it comes to foreign exchange:(.
