This has probably been asked before--why not a BK9 made thick like a BK2?

Has there been any thought at making a BK9 length knife out of the same thick stock as the BK2? I think this would be the ultimate bush beater knife.

Too thick, too heavy, wouldn't chop as well, would get tireder using it, angles would be wrong, would be more expensive.... I think that hit all the major points.

The two biggest reasons: Ethan didn't want it, It doesn't need it!

I think its just not needed. Any thicker than it is and it would probably throw off the balance and be a bit impractical. I think chopping with that could get exhausting. I dunno thats just my $0.02....I would love to see one though!

It would be pretty cool, but I believe a bit too heavy. The 9 chops great the way it is.

The old Camillus Bk-9s were that thick I think??
I believe Ka-bar and Ethan did testing and found that the thinner thickness chopped and performed a lot better and with Ka-bar's awesome heat treat and 1095CV, the 1/4 inch steel was not needed.

I may be wrong but that's what I think I remember reading sometime ago.

You can still find the old versions online sometimes.

...While it's not the .25 inches of the BK2, the Camillus version is half way there.

And coincidentally, those are the ones breaking up here in the PNW. I'll stick with the Kabar version just as it's made now.

I have a Camillus BK91 (desert tan bk9) and my father owns a kabar bk9. I completely prefer the slightly thicker camillus version. it feels better in the hand and a bit more stout. I don't think I would like it if it was any thicker, though.

i have a triple thick BK9, search the pictures :D

The .188 thickness lets the BK9 bite deep and chop as well as it does while also allowing it to be nimble and preform well at other tasks. That said, I would not mind a FFG .25" BK9. Ka-Bar probably won't make something like that but they have heard our cries. I don't know what, but the guys in the know have teased us with a simple "it's coming" whenever someone asks for a thicker chopping blade.

I think what the 9 really has going for it is how light is, at a hair over 1lb. It chops as well as any 1/4 chopper out there including the RD9, and SP10...but it does so with less arm fatigue and its lightweight makes it useable for more traditional knife tasks. That being said, I'd buy a 1/4" BK9 in a heart beart

I have an RD9, not the Bush version, so it's .25 inch thick. Trust me when I tell you, my BK9 outchops it by leaps and bounds.

I personally wouldn't buy a 1/4" blade stock BK-9 "heavy". I don't find much use for the BK-2 as it is. I'm still working up to a BK-9 "light".
