This hatchet looks a little odd to me, or have I lost a few too many marbles?

It isn't a hewing hatchet, and not the sort of broad-hatchet that has a hammer poll, obviously. I want to call it Kentish, but those are symmetrical above and below the eye, and also rounded. This is flat on top with Jersey-like pointy downward bits.
It's stamped very small, "craftsman/ reg. trade mark ="
I don't know why the "=".

I didn't know shipwrights had their own hatchets, but of course they would. And I did buy it pretty near a harbor town on Lake Michigan. Thanks.

I've got one of those in excellent condition, marked Craftsman like yours. Seems to be an uncommon design.

That's definitely the head-shape, SR. Mine is 6" long by 4" across the bit, on a 16" handle by the way.
After a little googling, I'm not sure that hunter/scout isn't Craftsman's name for the handle size, though.(Thanks for the link.)
Anyway, it's a pretty cool hatchet. I'll see how it cleans up.
