I'm sitting here in my office space (cubicle), and am running some lenghty processes, so, I get my BM 42 out an start practicing!!!

I can get to balison.com from work here. Who does that site, and is he listening??????

Anyway, I'm downloading videos, and I am maybe 5% as fast as the man in the video is. But, I got a T1 here, and can download in a jiffy. Too bad I can't get to balisontextreme.com from here: it is blocked.

So I'm sitting here, practicing the ice pick open and close, and one of my coworkers says, Hey, what the hell you doin over there? He stands up and tries to look over the walls into my cube. I quickly put the knife away, laughed inside, and made up some BS about what was causing the noise.

It was SOOOOOOOOOOO funny. You just had to be here. Tink, tink, tink, tink, what the hell is that noise...

Yeah,I can sympathize with any who have to deal with the non-imaginative or ignorant screw-ups who don't have or want a clue about things that they've never participated in or seen before.We rennies deal with them all the time too.One guy I know was sparring in his backyard with a friend of his using dull swords.Some idiot called the cops on them,thinking they were trying to kill each other or something (Can you say "moron"? I know you can,boys and girls...).
At our renaissance festival,we get stupid questions like "Do you dress this way all the time?". So,we usually answer "Yes we do,this is the only clothing we own..".Some people think we're staying in character...nah! We're being sarcastic <IMG SRC="smile.gif" border="0">

By using a proxy, you could get around the "blocked" sites. Chances are, you could use a proxy to do this, even if your company has an internal proxy. You may just be able to bypass it. Give it a try! Can't hurt to try, right? If you want one, email me. I'll see what I can find.

I think Clay has responded to request on his web site access on this discussion. I certainly hope this will help (using IP # instead of Domain Name) .. so that your proxy who should block certain syntax (i.e. pornography related) will allow a pure numbering address go through ..

 
If you just use regular IP#, it will not go through a proxy. the proxies see the words as #'s anyway, so they just won't allow it(trust me, i've tried).

The only way via # is to convert the IP# out to binary code by way of an equation(i can't remember where this is, sorry) and then to insert the binary pattern into the browser....better to insert a separate proxy inside your browser and see if that works. if it does, it is much less hassle.

As an Information Systems Manager, I must caution you against trying to go around your firewall/proxy. You stated that everything you do is logged. Your example of ebay.com and listings.ebay.com may get you to the site, but every site you go to is still listed under your account name. Meaning that if your network admin ever has a reason to check up on where you have been, he will know that you have still been going to ebay, how many times, how long there, number of auctions visited…etc you get the idea. Also using the ip will not help if you all are using higher end monitoring software. Ours here does a DNS lookup before logging.

Have you tried asking your administrator to let you access Clay's site? If you can show him/her that it is not a porn site or anything else illegal, and that you will only access it during lunch/breaks, he might let you in. I know that I have done this same thing for folks several times.

Random: I know everything is logged, but here is my own particular feeling about this.

I do my job, very well, and have no complaints. If some snot nosed f*ckhead wants to trace everywhere I have been, let him do it. I personally dont give a f***. I am not saying that I want to lose my job, but, don't people have something better to do?

No, they really dont have anything better to do. I know how you feel though, as I work for a major software vendor and have most sites, including clay's blocked. And our proxy is in NY, while our branch is here in CA, so everythingis dog slow! We cant even telnet/ftp anywhere without first calling a helpdesk number in NY and asking permission, such BS.

But, they pay well, and I have many many bills, so I dont complain.

your Sys Admin might not even want to go that far .. because here it is stated: " system are to be used for biz purpose only .. "

have you tried using Clay's IP as per my link there?
 
One thing I failed to mention is that I work for an ISP. They recently implemented highly restrictive firewalls. As a matter of fact, I shouldn't even be able to get to this "weapons" sight. Sad, really.

Anyway, I get to here using the same info that I gave you.
