Molly came to stay with us almost two years ago. She had been abandoned, along with another cat, by a squatting piece of feces living in a house owned by my brother-in-law. The other cat was younger and adoptable, so he went to a local animal rescue who quickly found a home for him. Molly was at least 17 years old, and we were afraid she couldn't be placed, so we made room for her with our other pets.

Our initial thought was that we would be providing "hospice care" for her, because we didn't think she would be around much longer. After 22 months, we started to take her presence for granted.

Last week, we noticed her peeing a lot more, so we took her to the Vet. We were informed of her test results this afternoon, and her kidneys seem to be in big trouble. I took her in for a weekend hospital stay so they can try to flush her out and minimize the damage. If she responds well, she should be with us for a couple more years. If not, it will be a matter of months. What her quality of life will be during either of the possible timelines remains to be seen.

She can be a little cranky sometimes, and she doesn't always make it to the litterbox, but we love her. If you can spare any kind thoughts, prayers or smoke for our little old grey-haired lady, we would certainly appreciate them.

Thank you,
Bryan & Kathy

Thanks for caring, and showing the old girl some loving peoples!

Good wishes and smoke sent!

I'll echo what BCCL said... 'You're good folks!' I had a similar experience with an ol' mutt I found wandering around where I worked. 2 1/2 good years he lived with me and my Scottie dog until I took him for the last trip to the vet. I couldn't stop the tears I shed for him but I knew I had probably given him the best 2 1/2 years of his life. Prayers sent for Molly.

~~Smoke~~ and ~~Song~~ up for a special old grey-haired lady. It seems for many reasons our animal friends are often better and more loyal friends than our human counterparts.

AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW. God bless you for taking care of and loving her. She is a beautiful, beautiful cat. I will keep her in my prayers.

Awwww. Molly's lovely. Sending well wishes her way.

Also listening to Winger's "Seventeen" in a show of support. :D

Smoke and prayers for Molly from MI. Snow too if she wants it. :D

Very nice of you folks to take her in, we need more folks in the world like that.

Both my Girlfriend and I are cat people, we were touched by your story, good thoughts and prayers coming your way from Vancouver BC.

Thank you all- very much. :)

We went to visit her this morning. She seemed reasonably comfortable. At least, as comfortable as she could be in a cage with an IV needle in her paw. :( It's still too early to know what effect her treatment is having, but we are grateful for your thoughts and prayers. We just tried to go see he again, but the clinic was unbelievably busy, and we couldn't even find a place to park. There were actually people standing outside waiting to get in. I hope that the reasons for this busyness are not as alarming as busyness itself. I'll try again in another hour or so to go see her. There is another small window of visiting hours Sunday in the late afternoon. We'll see her again then, and then hopefully bring her home on Monday.

In the meantime, here is a picture of her with her younger siblings- all of them rescues.

Clockwise from lower left is : Aspen- who simply wandered out of the woods to Kathy one afternoon, so skinny he was almost transparent. Molly- you've heard her story. McCain and Norman- these two were adopted from a shelter on Veteran's Day, so we named them after some famous Veterans. Full names are McCain Fine Gold, because of his truly golden eyes & Stormin' Norman Bates, because he is a psycho cat. The last dainty little grey one is Winky, who has only one eye and who eluded our capture for a year after we first noticed her. She was pregnant when we caught her, and she bore the kittens while she was in quarantine. They all found good homes and now Winky stays with us.

I know a lot of you also make great efforts to help out animals in need. Thank you for that, and thank you for your kind thoughts toward Molly and us. :)

:).

Like Steven posted, ya done good any way you look at it. Adopting those guys is an incredible thing. You feel obligated to help them with the best life they could have and if you are open to it, you get much more than you give in return. I hope Molly pulls through.

Molly is a beautiful Grand Dame of the feline world.

Hopes and prayers for her and her humans. :)

Cats are wonderful, unconditional love from them brings joy to the heart.

Much smoke & many prayers sent up for Molly and her (your) family. She's a cutie! Thank you many times over for sharing your home with your 'gang'.
Rescues make great companions... I got my 4 right here next to me.
