So my 5 year old son has been admiring my BK14, and keeps wanting to see it and play with it. He's very high-energy, and the combination of him and a sharp blade wouldn't work out very well.

SO I was sitting here in my office, and decided to carve a BK14 for him out of a piece of red oak I had laying around. 4 episodes of Jericho on Netflix later, this is what I came up with:

It's thick, and of course not sharp. But it looks close enough for his purposes and should keep him happily poking away at a cardboard box for a while :)

lol good stuff. Thats actually a really good idea. My son is 5 too and he likes my knives. I need to work on my carving skills anyway. I'm stealing this. Good job on the carving...from what I can tell its damn near a duplicate

dang, came out pretty great, feel lazy now, all I did was make a few landyards tonight.

Thats awesome! Looks just like it!
I carved my daughter a big survival type knife one time, we were camping in Maine...it was another reason to whittle, who doesn't like using there tools?

That is very cool, excellent idea man! Im sure he will enjoy the heck out of that, nice job on it too, it's even got a FFG!

Very nice work, and good idea. I think OneLeggedJosh carved out a BK2.

Thanks guys! It didn't turn out half bad for being done at 4am on a sleepless night...

He is thrilled with it. Already stabbing imaginary bad guys.

I think he needs some Sky pants for it, and some Lam scales!

Looks awesome man! I like that idea. It's a good way to teach proper knife safety too.

Oh and Jericho is THE $#!+ Love that show!!!!

Oh wow. That looks great. My 5 year old got to play with mine at the lake yesterday a bit. I was thinking about getting him a plastic one, but that's great. You taking orders? ;)

Awesome man....reminds me of the Case wooden kits you cam buy....whats his opinion on the sheath?

if you get the chance to cut in the skeletonized handle, it would give him a chance to play with some paracord too... Learn how to tie the knots and wrapping.

And the little one carries it cross-draw style! Aint that cool! ;)

What's funny was he stuck it in there like that himself without prompting. I thought he was going to wear the thing out in just one day. I brought in a cardboard box from outside which now looks like swiss cheese, hundreds of little punctures.
