No negatives please...I simply ask that you observe, reflect and respect.

God Bless Chesty Puller and the American Armed Forces.

.

I was young in the 60's, and it took me a long time to look through that uniform, any uniform, and know it was us in there, not 'them'.

God Bless.

I'll

Bump This To The Top.

The Iraq war has come home to me. One of my best friend's spouse is a Marine, going over in March. Just when the baby's due...

Regardless of politics, we must support our men and women in the armed forces. We must never again treat our people like we treated the Vietnam veterans.

I'll take that as a "Welcome Home" Ice...thank you. That's really all most of us ever wanted.

Amen! The people fighting in Iraq now are probably fighting the hardest most difficult situation for the longest time per individual since WW2 from the aspect of having to fight the enemy house to house and the length of time individual soldiers are having to be in a combat situation.

Whether the citizens should support the military regardless of the government's policies has always been a debatable question.

The German people loved the SS.

I beg to differ Ben. Our people are not SS. And by the way, many of the SS were simply soldiers - NOT war criminals.

Instead of more argument, may I please, with all due respect, request this stop here...private communication is *always* available.

I *choose* to believe that Ben's comment was that although the brunt of any conflict is borne by our military, it is the citizen's responsibility to actively participate in their government's policies by voting where that is allowed.

1940's Germany is a great example. The German people (many of that age whom I know personally) voted for a direction with a goal to recover from their depression. I do not believe they ever voted on the policies that were put in place by Adolf Hitler. The Germans are a fine people overall...just like Americans.

We are lucky in the US...we have an amendment that allows the people to retain control of the government. The Germans were denied that right. We each have a *responsibility* to vote, and if the need ever arises, a *duty* to remove that corrupt government by whatever means neccessary.

This thread however, was intended to honor the people who fight for Freedom, Liberty and Justice. We do not do that by bickering. A moment of silence is usually enough.

Ben, your post veers from observe, reflect, respect. It may be an observation, but it is an observation not in harmoney with respect.

Nasty's post was not intended to be a platform for US policy analysis, or sociological comparisons with former Fascist states.

with all due respect.

Nasty,

What did they say? I mean what were they thinking? I have never really read much about what the actual folks living there thought about the way things were going. Were they swept away by fear or some other emotion? Were they just not aware of the whole scope of what was going on? I have always wanted to ask somebody that was in Germany during that period what exactly the mindset was, cause I have always believed that the majority of all people are basically good and that they wouldn't have knowingly gone for that. Based on the folks you've talked to could you get any gist of it?

I have much I would like to share with you Jim...but I only have your work email here. I sent a message to you earlier, as well as asking one of the mods to try to get it to you.

I would enjoy talking with you about it, and other such subjects. You are more than welcome to email me...

Another thread?

Yes, Ben and Hollow should most definitely start another thread in the political forum.

As Nasty said, "No negatives please...I simply ask that you observe, reflect and respect."

I'm confused  What part of what I said do you percieve as negative?

Hollow;

There was nothing negative asking about WWll, but this was not the thread for it, particularly because of where it might lead, and I believe Nasty said so at the top. No biggie.
