look familiar
1rat3.jpg

I have the older rat 3 and they don't have the beveled scales like the RC3

I have a reasonably new RAT3 and the scales are beveled.

It does look an aweful lot like the RC3???

Brett

Well, yes it looks a lot like the RC-3 'cause Mike and I designed it! This is our RAT-3 that we use to license Ontario to build.

The newer version looks alot like the rc3 or is it just my imagination ? I must admit my rat3 has not see the light of day in quite sometime since the RC3 but my 1st look at the new rat3 reminded me of the RC3...I have seen advertisment of a new and improved RAT3 but ...????? might just be me...

Guys, look at the sheath. That photos is old as hell. This is the original RAT-3 when we introduced it. Duh.

Hell, I'm the one that wrote that ad. I still have it on my hard drive and it's dated when I built the ad.

:D I been drinking to much to early...I have a RAT3 with that style sheath but the handle or something struck me different and a glass of vodka, I had a mini freak out I guess ! LOL ! :D OK no more Drinking and surfing the web....:p

Tony, we never sold the RAT-3 with that style sheath. That photo was taken because we needed copy on the D2 model when it was being introduced. Shortly after that the knives started shipping with Blade-tech molded sheaths. What you see in the photo is a Kydex sheath.

I can see that I'm definitely going to have to put up a detailed history of all the RAT knives on the RAT Cutlery web site.

Again, it was the first RAT-3 to be introduced then we came out with the 1095 version later.

Guys, so far we don't know of anyone trying to rip off our designs. We have sent a cease and desist letter to Ontario to stop making them. What you see in this photo is an Ontario RAT RAT-3 in D2 that Mike and I 100 percent designed, prototyped, etc. There are a lot of them out there in the hands of a lot of folks.

In the meantime I will try to build a detailed history of our knife designs and put it up on the RAT Cutlery site.

Tony, don't get shocked when you see one of our older RAT-7s and think it's an RC-6 :D

Again guys, we appreciate the support.

Jeff

Hey guys, I read back over the posts here and detected a bit of sarcasm in my responses. Thats' the problem with email and forums...you really can't express yourself correctly. Anyway, I offer my apologies if I sounded like a smart-ass. We appreciate you guys looking out for us - I realize now that was all this thread was about.

Thanks,

Jeff

This thread further confirms something Jeff and I learned a long time ago. We will not use proto types like the above sheath anymore in ads. It only causes confusion down the road. If we were doing the same ad today we would use the knife and leave the sheath completely out of the ad. You will only see what we know what will be the production product. The current RC6 is a good example. The knife and hard sheath have been posted up but you won't see the complete sheath system until we have a production piece ready that represents what the MOLLE back for the hard sheath will be.
A long time ago we had a distributor photo shop a photo of the RAT 3 and it was a really weird green. We thought someone in China was knocking off the knife until we figured out what had happened. The ad with the weird color was eventuallu removed.:)
