Just got my E2 today. I had no idea how miniscule this thing actually is. It is tiny. I got it during the day, so the only way I could test it out was by going into my windowless bathroom and closing the door. Very small bathroom, very inconclusive test. So when night came I shone it in the backyard. Wow, talk about range and brightness level. But it is still hard to knock your socks off with any flashlight in the vastness of the outdoors. So tonight, I shut off all my apt lights and walked around like a Sting agent. UNBELIEVABLE.

Not only did I finally get to see the magnitude of its full illumination, but I was able to appreciate the hype associated with the "beam quality." I mean a beam is a beam, right? Wrong. Solid and unbroken was its magnificent aura. The spot of light doesn't so much shine on the surface as it does cover the surface in another medium. The residual arc of light is also a complete 360° and literally lights up the entire room, while the focused beam perfectly covers its target.

It reminded me of this unimpressive movie I saw a while back. Many may remember Pitch Black, a sci-fi flick which had at least one cool idea: hand held flashlights as serious weapons (against light-intolerant creatures). These Surefires indeed are as close to a light sabre as one might find.

The size is great, though. I can fit it easily in one of my cargo pant pockets without me or anyone else knowing it's there.

I was involved in a fender bender tonight which destroyed one of my headlights. Maybe I can rig up my E2 to replace the vehicular halogen lamp.

sweet, i hope you like it. im waiting for my E2 HA to come from 1sks. how is it for pocket carry? does it fit well clipped to left front? not to big for the pocket? does it snag when you pull it out? Im so excited to get mine.

It is ideal enough for most pocket carry, weight-wise. That is because it really doesn't weigh much at all. I tucked it into my cargo pocket of my pants and it disappeared, but only because there is a flap there. If you decide to clip it to a front pocket, it certainly won't be cumbersome. This thing weighs less than your average small or medium folder. But the head will definitely stick out. It doesn't seem to snag at all; the pocket clip seems as effective as a Benchmade knife's clip.

My only problem carrying it cliped to a pocket is that the knurling is so agressive that it starts to quickly wear through denim.

Been thinking of getting one myself, can someone give me a rundown on the differences between the various models, E1, E2, E3 .....

Gus spake thus:

Here's what I've gathered so far:

E1: 1 battery, 90 minutes runtime @ 15 lumens.
E2: 2 battery, 75 minutes runtime @ 60 lumens.

No E3 yet, although people are asking for them :D

Here's a link to the Surefire Discussion Board; in particular a thread which shows the various lights as well as a target under illumination from each of the lights. Each of the pictures were created under identical conditions, so it is great for comparison.

Note: you may have to register in order to view the thread.
Double note: lots of pictures on that thread, so it may be slow going!

Hope that helps!

Komondor, i know how ya feeling......

Just got my E2 in Gun Metal 'bout 2 weeks ago .... awsome light

Great beam with a nice switch set up ... been trying to go splunking (Caving) and really try this light in real extreme condition ... IMO the brightness this babe throw is beyond any other torch of its size.

Here's my pro's and con's.

Reason to buy.
1. Great brightness
2. Looks great ... immediately after i got it and open the package, all my friends with me at the time (lunch time) wanted one also ... until they found out what it costs
3. Great tail switch set up (screaming of TACTICAL !!!)
4. Great body ... tough

Reason to think before buying.
1. Eats lithiums batteries like there's no tomorrow (and those babes sure are costly)
2. Hot ... hot....hot
3. The specs' doesn't say its waterproof (believe me ... i'd read the small print) but according to some its waterproofness is somewhat
debatable ... more like splash proof .... i'm not gonna try on mine
4. Price !!!

Starfish, Gus ..... E1 are for SISSY IMO .. get E2 for Power !!!

BTW are there any E3 around ???? never heard of it yet.

Oink...oink...Bob

Gatekeeper - I believe the lamp burns about 20 hours before replacement is necessary.

el cid, and others who are interested in comparison - take a look at the picture below (copied from the link I gave in a previous reply) - this will tell you everything you need to know for comparison.

(Credit where it is due - thanks to FineFive at the Surefire discussion board for the picture!)

Thanks el cid. I especially like that shot of the wine glass seen through the night vision device, illuminated by the M1 infrared light. Gadget-lover's fantasy :D
