Just got my E2 today. I had no idea how miniscule this thing actually is. It is tiny. I got it during the day, so the only way I could test it out was by going into my windowless bathroom and closing the door. Very small bathroom, very inconclusive test. So when night came I shone it in the backyard. Wow, talk about range and brightness level. But it is still hard to knock your socks off with any flashlight in the vastness of the outdoors. So tonight, I shut off all my apt lights and walked around like a Sting agent. UNBELIEVABLE.
Not only did I finally get to see the magnitude of its full illumination, but I was able to appreciate the hype associated with the "beam quality." I mean a beam is a beam, right? Wrong. Solid and unbroken was its magnificent aura. The spot of light doesn't so much shine on the surface as it does cover the surface in another medium. The residual arc of light is also a complete 360° and literally lights up the entire room, while the focused beam perfectly covers its target.
It reminded me of this unimpressive movie I saw a while back. Many may remember Pitch Black, a sci-fi flick which had at least one cool idea: hand held flashlights as serious weapons (against light-intolerant creatures). These Surefires indeed are as close to a light sabre as one might find.
The size is great, though. I can fit it easily in one of my cargo pant pockets without me or anyone else knowing it's there.
I was involved in a fender bender tonight which destroyed one of my headlights. Maybe I can rig up my E2 to replace the vehicular halogen lamp.
