"This magnificent knife is a Pichangetti, Utility knife as well as a weapon used by the Coorg People of South west India, and the name means in Tamil language: Hand Knife. Like all Coorg weapon, it is a very rare item and hardly seen on the net or in auctions. The heavy 7 ½ inches blade can be used as an efficient weapon if the need arises. Silver handle and silver fittings on the scabbard. Short silver chain used to hang it on the belt on the belly. Total length12 ½ inches. Excellent condition."

file a little cho in that thing and it looks like you'll have yourself a cousin to the AK bowie. Very beautiful knife to say the least:)

That last pic reminded me: One of the Argentinian Knife makers has been posting some pics of some beautiful stuff he has been making over in the Custom Knife section of Ramanon lately. He has really being doing some ornate scabbards and decorations on the knives that are really beautiful. Check out the sheath on this one:

Also check out the dagger he did that is on down the page. Very cool!!

That first pattern was popular for Victorian-period butter knives. Parallel development or copying - I wonder.

for whatever its worth, the Pichangett reminds me a lot of greg lightfoots style of blades, the m1 and others. a very good utilitarian style of blade (also in a way the might behemoth from busse  , but mainly lightfoot...)

thanks for posting that link, Jim. I needed to see that.
