Has anyone ever acid washed/stonewashed their sr1 or sr2? I realize that the blade is a beauty, but I struggle with getting my nasty fingerprints on the blade. I find myself wanting to wipe it down constantly to keep it looking sexy.

Don't put me on trial for considering it; the only reason I didn't take it apart and acid wash it right when I got it is because it would void the warranty. Although I don't think I'd ever need it, a warranty is valuable to have nonetheless.

Here's my precious, unmolested thus far:

I haven't personally handled the black blade, by I love 2 things about them in general:
- they don't show smudges
- I love the worn look of a used black blade

I don't think the black LOOKS as good as the satin, but I would like it better in the long run

I'd venture a guess and say that a poorly done "pimp" job on an otherwise perfectly done satin finish can and may affect the tolerances of the knife. In other words, acid eating away at the blade would not likely be a good thing. But, the light at the end of the tunnel is that no one will know for sure until they try it themselves.

Thanks for the input, I tend to agree, hence the hesitation. The fact that I've searched around the interwebs and haven't found a single instance of someone doing an acid wash on a sr1 or 2 tells me that I may be alone in this thought process anyways.
The satin is slowly growing on me, we will see if it's enough to keep the tinkerer inside me at bay.

I have done a couple acid/stone washes before, but they were on cheap Chinese knives I didn't care for otherwise.

Forgive the ganzos in the pics above, a buddy bought them for me for the sole purpose of me waving and acid washing one for each of us. I don't endorse these knives other than my personal work on them. They were originally an ugly bead blast.[emoji3]

What is wrong with Ganzo? I just bought a g712 and it is to me a nice knife \.o./

Nothing as far as quality that I've seen, but some of their designs are rip offs of other companies and the axis lock is a total copyright infringement of Benchmade. That design theft pisses a lot of people off in here (rightfully so).

Ganzo company make fake knives, they copy design and locking system from other company.
They do that against the copyright and patents.
I dislike these knives and this company.
There are so many economic knives well done that we do not need to buy copies.
Everyone should be proud to protect and save original ideas and items.

I agree, just using the picture to show an acid washed and stone washed finish.

You did a nice job refinishing those Ganzo blades. If judiciously done to the lionSTEEL blades; I don't believe you're going to affect the tolerances at all. Don't refinish on my say so, but if it were me, I'd do it.

Thanks for the opinion. I haven't done it yet, still letting the satin grow on me while I debate.

Well, I did it. I think it looks awesome! I will take more pics in the sunlight today, I don't think these do it all the justice it deserves.

You can see in the last pic that I did the clip too.

I will admit, it took FOREVER to reprofile the blade after stonewashing it, going from the factory grind to a standard sharpmaker 40* was a chore. It will cut hair now, but it's still not quite where I want it. I will be hitting the stones again tonight. [emoji3]
