This may make a good field folder.

Hi T,

That's a good looking knife.

I have never really used a CRKT knife hard, but my brother had a habit of breaking the tips off of knives I gave him (a Benchmade Liner-lock being one of them).

So one day I got a CRKT as part of a multi-trade, and it looked hefty, so I gave it to my brother. Honestly I was thinking, "Well at least if he destroys this one, it won't suck... as badly "

It had Stainless liners, dual locking mech and FRN handles I believe, but can't remember the model name - anyway, He has used the crud out of that knife for a couple of years now, and it is still in one piece, locks up great. and he gives no complaints on the Aus 8.

May not sound like a great testimonial, but if a knife can survive my brother for 2 years virtually unscathed - then that says a lot :D .

If you pick one up, let us know how it goes.

Be Well,

I have a Lightfoot M1 by CRKT and I was always happy with it. It plays second fiddle to my Manix now but I wouldn't hesitate to trust it.

I had an M1, it was a tough knife and I like the blade shape. That's why I'm thinking I will really like the Carson model.

Looks to be a very well built knife to me. I have no experience with CRKT. I have been using Sodbusters for my field folders as of late. I have hopelessly fallen down the "traditional" hole and I see little hope of return. ;) :D

I'm leaning that way too, I can't keep my eye off the Queen Mountain Man folders. I want one in 1095 and in D2!

I've been eyeing one too but I would want to hold one in person before buying it.

Also Aus8 is a fantastic steel , no offense intended but I've seen too many folks call it a decent steel lately , as if it's just an okay steel or a so-so steel , maybe I'm misinterpeting folks meanings too. :D
Aus8 will take a much nicer edge than many 'shmancy' steels and hold it nearly as long.
I do like the shape of the blade on that CRKT model

My meaning is that it's not one of the new "super steels" but a solid working stainless. Easy to sharpen and maintain too. Like 440C seems to get the ho-hum attitude but is still an excellent, well proven steel.

:) me and my misinterpetations. :p

Have a good weekend doods.

That's exactly the blade shape I was looking for when I posted for a 3.5" flat-ground folder. The Carson is 3.75", but it foots the bill for a wilderness pocket folder for me. The scales look hand friendly and the blade is flat and broad.

As to AUS8, it works fine. I EDC a Boker Trance in AUS8 and cut all kinds of crud at work and it just needs a little touch up on the ol' crock sticks once in a while.

I really like all of the knives that I have by CRKT. You get a lot of knife for not a lot of money. I've bought all of my CRKT knives on line, never handled them before buying, never been disappointed with quality, and only been disappointed with the feel of one, the Hawk KA-T. . . I removed the scales though, and put on a cord wrap, and it's great now. I'd say go for it on the Carson. Looks like a great knife.

Looks like a great knife!

I don't get hwy people are always so down on AUS-8. It has to be one of my favorite steels out there. It takes very little to resharpen to a hair popping edge and holds the edge fairly long. Another reason I like it is because there is such a variety in knives that come with this steel making it easy (well sort of:D ) to find one I like.

I know CRKT take a lot of flak and I'm not much of a folder guy but I do have one folder and it's a CRKT Prowler. I must say that I really like this knife, it's never let me down, the blade keeps an edge as long as most other knives I have and is easy to sharpen and get real sharp.....what more can you ask of a folder ?

Iknife.

I just was given a M-16K for Dads day. Okay it is made in Taiwan - but I have been REALLY impressed with the knife.

I think you will like that folder you ordered.
