My friend is an Army Calvary Scout with the 3rd ACR and he is coming back for a few weeks before he probably goes to Iraq. I wanted to give him some knives to take with him and I'm giving him a SAK and a neck knife. Now here is my question...I have an all black KaBar that has been sitting in the box since I got it and I was thinking about giving him that too. Do Army guys carry KaBars or is that strictly some Marine sh!t? I don't see what the big deal is...and I think I actually saw some 101st guys with them. But when I told another one of my friends that I was going to give it to him he said I shouldn't because it's a Marines knife. What do you guys think?

A knife is a knife -- I say give it to him. I was in the Marines, and if I saw an Army fellow carrying one I wouldn't mind. Especially if I was in Iraq.

That's what I say...I'll take it of my trade list. I was going to trade for somethin different.

Many soldiers in the Army carry Kabars. When I was serving, you could carry whatever you wanted except on a jump. Then you had to have a metal reinforced sheath (fixed blade of course) so not to be injured during your PLF (parachute landing fall.)

I had a USMC Ka-Bar before it was confiscated when I went to Korea  . No one will give him crap about it, probably most will be jealous. That's a great gift for a soldier.

Geez! if you're giving such good stuff away what are you holding back for yourself? Loveless? Randal?;)

I would never give this kid the good stuff because I know he will abuse the sh!t out of it because he's schlep! lol

19D20 and I used to carry a Kabar. He may want to keep it in his ruck until he gets in the box. That will depend on how they fly him over.
"please raise your trays and seat backs to the upright position, also please ensure that your M16 or 240B is stored beneath your seat. And finally we would like to remind you that carrying any edged weapon on board is a violation of federal law. Thank you for flying air Lingus."
No S--- there I was.

SPATHA, sort of like what happened to me. I was told that knives were no big deal in Korea, guys carried Ka-Bars to the field all the time. Then I get off the plane and go to customs to be told that there's a 4" blade limit imposed by the Korean gov't. :barf: and if there were a middle finger smiley I'd post that too. SOBs disarmed their own populace and wanted to screw with us as well. I have little love for the Korean peninsula after having spent a year there.
