I just ordered me a couple o' new Great Eastern Cutlery knives: a GEC #25 Easy Open Jack in grape jigged bone (440C sheepsfoot) and a Tidioute #25 Jack in strawberry jigged bone (1095 wharncliffe.) It'll take a week or two for them to arrive but I sure am looking forward to 'em!

For some of the nicest folks on the Forums, y'all are such a bad influence! I've been bitten bad by the Traditional bug and it's all your fault... lovin' it!:D

Best regards,

Brett

Don't forget to post some pictures. It is important to keep spreading the disease.

Brett,

well - that´s bad - the only way to cure your disease ... get more traditional knives :D

Congratz for your arrival on the Dark Side :)

Couple of great little buggers. I have an all steel #25 barlow in burnt stagt that I love.

Brett,
welcome to our world :)
Actually, it was no bug bite.
You just saw the porch from the distance and the chairs rocking.
You smelled the tobacco and whisky.
You heard people talking and sharing thoughts.
You saw stag and patina and bone and whittling sticks.
And you knew that, when you would step in. you would be welcome.

Thanks, gentlemen! I shall be sure to post pics when they arrive. I couldn't decide between these two beauties so I defaulted to the traditional BladeForums wisdom: buy both! :D

Dang, Fausto! Or should I call you Mephistopheles? That's some Jackknife-calibre prose right there!

You can call me Fausto, just like anyone else  and no, I will never reach Carl and his stories. Not for a long time at least.
Back to knives, a GEC #25 (in elk and 440C) was my first American traditional too. Time has helped me understand better my taste in the world of American traditionals, but still that small jack has a special place for me. Hopefully, it will be the same for you.

I'm really looking forward to seeing pics of this Grape #25. That little knife is probably my all time favorite GEC...I don't know what it tis about it...
Here's mine in Zebrewood... I am Loving GEC's 440C , they seem to have a great heat treat on it

Understandably-- you've made some nice selections, and it will be fun to have those colors coming in at the same time.

I look forward to seeing 'em. :)

I love that easy open 25 with the sheepfoot blade...everytime someone posts a picture of it.. I cry a little. :) Some day I'll make one part of my collection.

Congrats! I've been tempted by both of those myself.

I held off on the grape mainly because purple is Mrs. Zippofan's favorite color, and I figured that it would disappear from my knife roll :D

I don't have an Easy Open or a Jack. But I do have a couple of Barlows that I'm right partial to...

The Genuine Stag on the left has a Wharncliffe master blade and you can see the clip point on the Buffalo Horn, to the right. The #25 is a great platform. I'm sure you'll enjoy your new knives!

These little fellas were waiting on my porch for me when I got home from work... I'm blown away by everything about 'em!:cool:

I really need to get a better camera...

Nice ones, Brett! I like my #25 Grape EO so much that I have been seriously thinking about getting another one just like it before they are all gone. You know, just in case.

Thanks, Rick, and I hear ya! Better hurry: only five of them left on the site I ordered from (and only one of the strawberry wharnie)... might have to pick up a spare or two m'self! :D

For Brett.

The man had ben wandering for longer than he could remember. It had been a darkness of black zytel and G10, a wilderness of sameness. He was so tired, he wished he could lay down right there in the road, but he knew he had to find a place. Putting foot in front of foot, he slowly kept moving through the night. The cold made him shiver in his thin jacket.

Then he realized he had been staring at the light. It was a tiny yellow flickering in the night far ahead. It seemed forever until he got close enough to see huddled shapes around a fire, and hear the muted conversation. He stumbled into the fire light, and helping hands reached out and guided him to an upturned milk crate. Sitting exhausted, a hot mug of coffee was thrust into his cold hands, and a bottle of whisky poured a measure into his cup. He drank gratefully, and felt the warm glow of the drink in his empty belly.

"I was lost, I'm not sure where I'm going." the man said.

Someone patted him on the shoulder and told him it was okay, just set a spell and warm up, and have a drink. Slowly he looked around, and saw some men whittling on sticks, bone handled pocket knives in their hands. There were barlows, serpentine jacks, peanuts.

"Here son, try this one." said one of the men as he held out a red jigged bone handled jackknife for him.

"Where am I?" asked the lost one.

"It don't really matter for now, son. Just think of this as home for while." he was told.

The lost one took another sip of the hot coffee and whisky, and then began to whittle.

Thank you, Carl! A fine bit o' wordsmithing there, sir... as usual! :) But unlike the usual, this one was for me and I am much obliged and honoured you took the time...
