This old knife

i almost never respond to this type of question. so ill have a go a treat it seriously, straight face and all. if what the op means is whats a good way to check for sharpness then i think theres a few tried n so so true ways to define and test this simply.
#1 i think has to be the shaving arm hair method. if you can shave off some arm hair easilly then its likely kinda sharp.
#2 i would say slicing paper is probubly one of the most talked about or shown methods, just check how many youtube reviewers feel a sharp knife has to be shown to be sharp by slicing some paper.
#3 and my most used method, is to drag my finger lightly touching the edge, not lengthwise but across the side of the edge, im at the point where i can feel if its sharp enough without cutting much more that a few ridges off my fingerprints.

Id go one further and ask how sharp is sharp ?
is paper slicing sharp , sharp , or hair shaving sharp , sharp , or maybe hair whittling sharp , sharp ? or is even sharper than that considered t be " sharp " ... if I was gunna ask that kinda question anyway ...
 
Hey Glock45. Come back. Everybody is teasing you but that's how this place works. But, if there is more depth to you question than it seems from the words in your post, then you've actually asked a question that others have asked...albeit more concisely.

How sharp is sharp enough? How "toothy" should the edge be? What should be my bevel? Should I put a microbevel on it? Should I try to achieve a mirror polish? How come I can't sharpen it? How come I can sharpen it but it won't stay sharp?

The sharpness question has much dimension to it.
