This is the handle of the above khukuri.
It is horn, and was once inlayed.
I want to get the khuk rehandled in a decent, durable wood.
Can someone who reads this do this job?

Of course you'd get paid. :D
Please email me.

It may seem like blasphemy to some, but I would like to actually use this old warhorse.

Buttplate(s) are loose as a goose.
Horn is starting to de-laminate from age.
Don't want the handle disintegrating in the middle of the woods.

Mike,
Why not try to make it yourself? It's not too hard, once you make one it gets easier.
I'm sorry about shuttin the shop down guy's but theres alot of things I haven't done in awhile due to lack of time.
I've let alot of hobbies go that I need to pick up again ( makeing and shooting longbows for one) And most important spending more time with my family. My 142# longbow hasn't had a work out in quite awhile. It's kinda like me. Time to get in shape again.
Thanks for all the friendship and lettin me handle all the khukuris.
God Bless.
Terry

Hi Mike, where do you find all of these old khuks? This one is really cool looking! Can you give us the specs?

Terry, I completely understand why you have decided to shut down the shop. My quarrel is with myself for procrastinating for months on getting this ole warhorse re-handled.
I have attempted to make a khuk handle in the past, twice, actually.
Both of them broke when subjected to heavy chopping. After 20+ hours invested, I gave up on that enterprise. I traded the blades away to another forumite.

I suppose I could break out the x-acto knives and hand drill and give it one more shot...
Or, it occurs to me that a lot of knifemakers read the "shop talk" forum, so maybe I will post this job there.

Chris, this knife came from an auction. It was poorly pictured and described. I took a chance and got it for a very measly amount.
Overall length is 18 1/4" and it's 3/8" thick at the bolster. A bit thinner than modern products from Birghorka. The blade actually has a bit of a concave cross-section. The "feel" and balance are very appealing to me.

I need to post some pictures of some of the junk khuks I have so everyone can see the results of buying poorly-pictured khuks. Most of them are nowhere near this....
:(

Looks like a good solid kukri that has years more to give with a new handle.

I am very certain the 'designs' on the grip are not original so blaspheme away!

Pala made a couple of handles out of purple heart -- hard wood to work but worth the effort. It'll last 100 years.

He might. Depends on how long he's planning on staying.

It would be great if Pala has the time and the inclination to do it.
I'm sure he would appreciate this ole khuk.
Besides, it would keep him "off the street and out of trouble.";)

Nothing keeps Pala off the street and out of trouble. Like most Gorkhas he loves to gamble and heads for the casinos first chance.
