This represents several firsts:

  • The first knife I've finished in over a year.
  • The first forged knife out of the hot shop I set up last year.
  • My first knife using Burl Source's wood.

It's forged from some of Aldo and Mace's original 1084, silicon bronze
guard and pin, Burl Source stabilized maple burl handle and a spacer
of American chestnut burl that I had K&G stabilize a few years ago.

This is also the first time I tried an oil finish on stabilized wood after
several makers suggested it. IMHO, the result was pretty good. It
did darken the wood but I like the resulting color and the detail really
came out.

It's not perfect, but I'm happy overall. Any comments or
criticism would be very welcome.

I really like it Dan. I like how the maple darkened with the oil finish. Looks like a great knife all around. Good choice of materials.

It's always fun when you get to build one you know you're going to keep for yourself.:)

Nice job.

I really like the nice touch of American Chestnut burl...don't think you can get that new anymore!

Sweet...

It's about time you got back to making knives.

I really like it. The use of oil on stabilized woods seems to liven it up a bit.
The shape of the knife and your choice of materials really go together nicely. I can see why you want to keep this one.

I finally finished my first sheath:

Nice distal taper. I always say "this one's for me" and then someone else likes it so much i sell it to them.

Thats a real looker Dan. Besides being a beautiful knife it looks like it would fit the hand nicely.
