Pipeman - you like Walters, right? Not sure how many of these are still around, I dont think too many, if any. And who would of thought, paper labels on BOTH sides.......

Mike, you really know how to hurt a guy. :D Are the silver labels on foil? Apparently the coloured paper labels predate the foils. The strikes are the deepest I've ever seen on a Walters axe. Nice find my friend.

Forgive me if this is a dumb question as I don't know that much about historical North American axes... but what are the markings on that head? Are these the 'strikes' that Pipeman mentions? At first it looked like a piled laminated steel construction... but obviously not.

The strikes I was talking about are the makers mark, Walters are usually marked with a shallow mark. The grain you're seeing I believe could be the remnants of some original finish from the factory, but that's a guess.
