Putting Buck's Trademark logo on the picture of a fake is pretty ballsy. I guess in a way it is a compliment to Buck that you
can't sell a crappy knife without trying to imply it is as good as the real thing.

Yes, I reported it to Buck's counterfeit tip line.
Quote from seller in Costa Mesa CA.

This is a reproduction however it is a great knife. Has pocket clip and every bit as good as my genuine Buck.
Solid mechanism, tight construction, good steel. You won’t be disappointed.

The seller's statement leads me to the question..
If the knife is that good, why does the maker not put their own name on it?

I had to look up 5Cr15Mov steel, It is listed as a "cheap" Chinese steel. Excellent corrosion resistance which makes it good for kitchen cutlery and fisherman but it is not recommended as a general outdoor or hunting use knife as it does not hold an edge well. Max Rockwell hardness I found listed was 54, a good bit lower than the 58 claimed in the picture above. Buck's 420hc is listed at 58.

yeah it's a chinese steel name. close to 1.4116 or 4116 folks here might know those steels? kitchen knife steel basically. cold steel has used it in different cheaper fixed blades in the past. not quite 420hc, but not too far off....
56 to 58hrc is the top of the hardness that can be done on it...but at a compromise on toughness and corrosion resistance, etc like all tradeoffs....

on topic that knife looks like box store type stuff. if it's not one of Bucks imports for a box store someone should report to to them...so they can stop their name being used via legal means, if they want....

The worst part is, someone's mom or grandma will order that for one of their kids or grandkids who like Buck knives and they'll end up unkowingly giving them a fugazi Buck. That's what chaps my rear about these knockoff bums and their deceptive listings.
And then the recipient has a poor opinion of Buck knives.
And bad news travels faster than good news.

I wish Buck would post pictures of the fakes they receive for warranty repair. I bet they get a lot of them.

ebay needs to be taken to task/court for all the known fakes and stolen goods they sell each year.

We do monitor Ebay and many other 3rd party sites but most of them don't care to take it down and ignore our request, or if we do get them to take it down the seller just pops up under a different name but same pictures and stock. The reason we don't publicly release every photo of fake Buck Knives is then they will get better at forging them.

What i don’t understand is why Buck doesn’t monitor ebay themselves.

Do a search once a day for Buck knife, sort by recently listed and make ebay take them down.
that involves paid staff and now more overhead costs. which translates to higher prices you pay. seems they already do anyways though.

I don’t think that is true. They have the fraud email set up. So someone deals with that. It only takes a couple of minutes to search for newly listed Buck knives.
it is true. everything that requires paid staff hours spent on tasks that isn't a cogs falls into overhead and increases costs of the product.

I realized what you meant plus read the response from the factory. And edited my post accordingly. You quoted me in the 30 seconds it took me to edit.

regardless what I said is true....

Yes that is why I edited my post. Since you want to continue.

All I meant was somone is already being paid to deal with the emails we send reporting frauds. It takes 60 seconds a day to search newly listed Buck knives on Ebay. I hardly think 7 minutes a week is going to bust the payroll.

If I offended you. I’m sorry. I wasn’t calling you a liar.

They have been and our wonderful courts ruled that eBay was not liable. The landmark case was brought by Tiffany because most "Tiffany" products on eBay are counterfeit. The case went all the way to the Supreme Court who turned down Tiffany's appeal.

"Tiffany sued eBay in 2004. A federal judge in New York and then a U.S. appeals court ruled that eBay was not liable for trademark infringement by allowing fake Tiffany goods to be sold on the website by individuals."
