Hello to all, can't believe the detail this site goes into as far as knives go, very interesting.

How difficult would it be to make a handle for a "lockback" blade? about a 4 inch drop point blade.

Basically make it a fixed knife, that would be the easier fix.
This site is so vast was hoping for some direction, where to look.

Looking for function over style at this time.

I'm probably in over my head, just thought I'd ask for help.

thanks

Welcome to the forums. It would be difficult to make a decent fixed blade from a folder blade because there is no tang. It could be done though.

Probably easier to get a 1/8" piece of annealed O1 and saw, file, drill, heat treat, etc. it into a new knife. It would also cut better.

Welcome.Read the getting started stickies at the top of the forum page for more good advise. I would get some knife making books and read up on the subject."The $50 Knife shop","Step-by-Step Knifemaking","The Complete Bladesmith" are the three I recommend for starters.
As to converting a folder blade to a fixed blade,at best it would look like some sort of prison shiv. Make a new knife yourself and you will be much happier, and proud of the knife you made.A kit knife,or a finished blade, from one of the suppliers or,www.knifekits.com will be a good way to get started.

Glad you showed up to the party. I think you could weld a handle to the blade but it wouldn't be my first choice of a fixed blade.

He gave me the same advice and I have two of the three books now and they cover almost everything. I have yet to get The Complete Bladesmith, but I think it will finish the set and give me a look at what's missing.

Keep em sharp.
