From the white metal hardware right down to the Bamboo Root handle, this thing is WICKED (New Englander for "GREAT")!

The root was a bit dry (and almost chalk-gray in color) so I gave it a BLO bath for about 3 days followed by a liberal application with many coats of Teak Oil. The Bamboo Root is naturally porous and "grippy" rough so I did a bit of sanding between the bath and after each coat of Teak Oil... once the wood finally sealed up, out came the beautiful color and grain. It's still "grippy" and textured but without the roughness it had prior to the oil (almost "splintery"). First BB Root handle I've had and I absolutely love it.

Kumar did a great job with this one and it's razor sharp. I use it when I'm riding the lawn tractor to remove limbs and brush that are overhead which knock my hat off... It's fast enough to clean off a free-hanging limb with the flick of the wrist. I also use my Reti for the same purpose, but this Tamang will handle stuff bigger than my thumb (free hanging without support).... just slash and it's gone. The Reti is great for the smaller stuff because it's also so quick. They are both like a scythe that you hold in your hand.

Job well done Kumar!!!

I highly recommend these for those who don't already have one.

Try the Bamboo Root... you'll like it!

I wonder what size of bamboo plant you'd need to get a root you could make a hilt out of. There are some fairly large bamboo plants near my house that I'm tempted to dig up.

Told ya you wouldn't be sorry, and it's a great blade.

Glad to hear you approve.

The more Tamangs I see, the more I want one. And now that I've handled a KLVUK, I want one of those too. HIKV is real, people. Sadly, a recent purchase means no more blades for a while.

Loving that bamboo root, it shows real character in the grain when cleaned up and polished like that. Great job on finishing that one Timcsaw!

Thanks Shavru... it was pretty dry because it's so porous... it bubbled when it went into the Boiled Linseed Oil... after a 3 day soak it finally stopped foaming. I let it dry and put on about 10 coats of Teak oil... an application of 10 coats of Tung Oil will be my final step. It'll GLOW!!
