This Year I Made A Pact With Myself Regarding Knives

I vowed that I would only buy one knife this year, and it will be a CRK, at BLADE 2015.

I have several large purchases to make this year, some for fun, some absolutely necessary. I just paid out a few thousand dollars to go back to school so I can get ahead in my career. My fiance is currently wearing an heirloom engagement ring, and I want to give her one that I pay for myself because I know how much it'll mean to her. Last year I owned 5 different Sebenzas through out the year. Never more than 3 at the same time, but still 5 total. Those are my main reasons however...

I think it's going to be easy. Since I got my small micarta Insingo, I've completely lost the desire to constantly acquire CRK. Between it and my CF DT Sebenza, I think I'm perfectly content. I find myself so thrilled over each of those knives, every time I use them, that I don't think I need to experience more CRKs immediately. Between owning 5 in a short time, and handling several others, I feel very comfortable and satisfied with what I have.

Never in my life have I owned a knife that has brought me as much joy as the CRK Sebenza, and so consistently. That "new knife" feeling never fades for me, and I am the type of person who bores easily. Every single time I push open a small Sebenza and hear it CLI-CLICK, double snap into the locked position I just think to myself "wow!!!!".

I've been blessed enough to own these knives, now I'll be grateful enough to be content with them. As for the rest of you, I hope you buy as many or as few as you want this year and are as happy as I am for your CRKs!

Great two to have, thats for sure. Being content with Just Two though, OMG..... Don't know if I could survive.....lol.

I'm lucky if I can make it a week without buying something, good luck.

Harris, I'll help you pick one out. I can't wait for Blade. It's six months away but I'm ready.

5 months :)

Congrats on your 'resolution'. I have to say that I rather like the idea. I told my wife I want to do the same thing. So, it looks like I am going to blade too. Sweet!

Looking forward to what you pick out at Blade 2015, and congratulations on finding your happy place with the two you have. I think two Sebenzas is a good number. Once I went past that, it seemed I didn't have enough, and that "special" feeling of only having one CRK was gone as well. Two is kinda like "Batman and Robin", "Peanut butter and Jam", or "Lone Ranger and Tonto". It works. After you pick up a third at Blade you might be in trouble again. ;)

It's going to be a shame when I see ya and have to accept the reality that I'm not friends with Nick Hofferman. I'm sure we'll get together before then for a beer, and a cigar (if you're into that).

Oh wow, that is awesome! The more CRK friends at BLADE, the better! Can't wait to meet you and take you around to some Atlanta food hotspots brother! Good luck to you, message me if you feel weak. We'll support each other. I know you've got the CRK bug somethin' BAD :D !

Glad you mentioned this, because I have a feeling you're right. 3 is that number when I'm all too comfortable picking up more of the same knife to create a "working collection". Dangerous territory considering all the stuff I have to pay for this year along with my goal of purchasing a specific Rolex to accompany my Sebenzas. The Rolex is secretly the primary reason I have to settle down with my Sebenza love affair ;) Thanks for the comment, Cody. If it all possible, it'd be great to see you at BLADE.

You're more disciplined than I am. I've tried to limit myself, but that other special CRK comes along calling my name
Hope you stay strong

Yeah, I had planned on someone correcting me so when I came back to this thread it would seem like a month had passed.:p

I was intending to have a fairly quiet knife year this year as well.... I'm already a 9" Sikayo and a micarta 25 down and it's only January. :p

I'm guessing June will be somewhat expensive month as well. :D

Yes...Yes it will. June is my birthday month so I'll find a way to justify whatever variety of crazy I go by then.

11 days into January Haze, and you've gained two knives, and I've lost I'd say at least 2 screws in the old noggin. You enjoying that micarta 25? I remember you saying you were picking it up last Sunday. What's it like?

Good luck getting through it! You are lucky to get to go to blade and pick one out, blade always happens to fall during my busy time of year so I have yet to be able to go:(

I pay for that luck by driving a stick through Atlanta traffic every single day! Hope you can make it out one day Ernie!

Having been one that was a great big negative nancy about the 25 and the look of the inlayed version I'll have to fully admit to sitting down and eating my hat without salt or pepper here. :p It's a great knife and I'll be enjoying it for many years. I will say that the micarta is vastly superior to the plain jane in comfort though, IMO. Those finger grooves totally kill the plain Ti 25 for me but the micarta inlays fix that very nicely and present a quite different feeling knife. :)

The other day I was shopping time pieces and browsing a dealer's Omega selection. While doing this, I had our CRK watch thread open too, you know, to make sure everyone else around here is a nutter too. So I'm looking at your TSAR (or was it a GSAR? can't recall off the top of my head, but nice watch!!) and as Im between images one of the dealers Omega Seamaster Planet Oceans catches my eye...The price tag! It was certified pre-owned with box, documentation, etc. for $2,400 USD! Beautiful condition. All I could think for the 20 minutes it was for sale was "come on man, you said one KNIFE this year, not one WATCH". It sold shortly after, and back to the struggle I went...

There's nothing wrong with owning more than one CRK but I am trying to be more content in 2015 and be happy with what I have. I'm carrying a plain jane Sebenza 21 and I really am enjoying that knife.

I applaud your comment both to your loved one and to your purchases.
Take it from one who has been around a long time, money can be a source on great agony. My wife and I made a pact very long ago (no hobby purchases unless it's paid for in cash). It worked! 43 years and still going.:D

Best wishes!

Smart woman! I try to do the same. Cash only, for luxuries! I wish you and yours many more happy years.

No new CRKs, or knives otherwise, since before Christmas for me. Looks like I am holding to my pact pretty well, and I've accomplished nearly everything else I was setting money aside for. I'm not going to lie to you all, every day is closer to a trigger pull. This is way harder than I thought it'd be.

If I manage to make it all the way till BLADE, maybe Jon and Haze can help me pick out the next CRK.

Keep it up! I'm in basically the same position. This year, I've picked up a large damascus/snakewood 21 and a Microtech Makora II, and I got a Kimber 1911 as a Christmas gift. I've decided that's really enough for this year. I'm sure I might get something else inexpensive, but I've made the decision that I really don't need to buy any more items for myself this year. Saving up for a camera for my wife.

I have been good too. Though, I almost broke down and bought the dealer specific carbon fiber 25 that just came out. I had to think long and hard on that one.

Haha.
