This years Gold Coin Sebenza?

This year's GC Sebenza is with the Austrian coin that honors the Austrian Philharmonic Orchestra. The engraving is a short piece of the musical score from the famous waltz "On the Beautiful Blue Danube" by Johann Strauss Jr. Another beautiful edition from our friends at CRK.

These knives are complete and are shipping now. Bridget sent me a photo that they took just this morning but I cannot post without permission; maybe Anne will put up the photo. Since these will be in our hands soon I would expect photos to appear shortly!

Here is a photo of the 2002 Gold Coin Sebenza - I apologize that it is not the greatest photo but it gives you the idea. Damascus blade (Devin Thomas raindrop) tucked inside!

I'm afraid that I have to report this thread to a moderator. That knife is too damn sexually explicit. ;) :D

I disagree. now *if* the blade had been out all shameless....!

I have gained the privilege of being the owner of #13 in the Gold Coin Sebenza series. I currently have the 2002 Austrian Gold Coin Sebenza with which I would be willing to part:

Chris Reeve Knives- 2002 Gold Coin Sebenza, #13 of 20, integral lock, 4 3/4" closed, 3 1/2" Devin Thomas high contrast raindrop pattern carbon damascus blade, bronze anodized titanium thumb stud, notched thumb ramp, phosphor- bronze washers, bead blast titanium rear handle with integral side lock, polished titanium front handle with blue anodized logo, gold anodized opening bars of "The Blue Danube", 1/10th ounce Austrian Mint gold coin celebrating the prestigious Vienna Philharmonic (front side shows stringed instruments, the obverse shows the Vienna Golden Concert Hall which can be seen upon disassembly), polished stainless screws, thonghole, gold anodized titanium backspacer washer, bead blast titanium clip, leather slip sheath.

This is one of the rarest Sebenzas in existence. There are only 20 of these knives made each year, and all 20 knives are spoken for long before they are ever made. Specific dealers have rights to specific numbers of these 20 knives each year. Each dealer then has certain customers to whom they give the right to purchase the same number of knife each year. The only way for one of these knives to become available is for a customer to waive his right to it (a situation that is about as rare as the knife itself).

The gold coin collection started in 1997, and there have been a total of 6 knives in the series so far. However, with the first three knives in the series (U.S., Australia, and Canada), there were only 12 knives issued each year. In 2000, Chris extended the number of knives offered to 20. Therefore the #13 wasn’t included in the series until the year 2000, beginning with the South Africa knife. In 2001, the China knife was offered. I do not currently own these other two #13 knives, but I have been granted the honor of having the first right to purchase #13 throughout the duration of the Gold Coin Sebenza series.

When I asked Anne Reeve how long they planned to continue the Gold Coin Sebenza series, she told me that, although there are only a few more countries which offer fractional gold coins in 1/10 oz. denominations, Chris Reeve is considering continuing the series using platinum coins.

Because this knife is part of a continuing series, I would prefer it go to someone who is interested in continuing the series and not just interested in this one particular knife. If you are interested, contact me at troywallis@earthlink.net.

As I explained to Mike in a private email message, my brother ("flamingeye") and I purchased the #13 Gold Coin Sebenza from Arizona Custom Knives, a store which has recently been bought out by Julie Hyman of Ponte Vedra, Florida. Julie has been so busy getting her business affairs in order that she has been unable to update her website and show the #13 knife as having already been sold. It's only been a couple weeks since we purchased it anyway. Julie is a great person and I would highly recommend doing business with Arizona Custom Knives.

My brother and I just wanted the opportunity to be able to say that we actually had a Gold Coin Sebenza in our possession, but we cannot afford to keep it. We have tried finding it a good home both through ebay and through bladeforums. We do want to find someone who will continue the series rather than get one knife and run. Again, if anyone out there can provide this kind of home, please contact me at troywallis@earthlink.net.

im2smrt4u, thanks for bidding on ebay. However, as Mike has explained, Arizona Custom Knives' list price was $775.00, and we also have fees to recoup in addition to the purchase price.

No big deal. I didn't know what kind of reserve you were looking for, so I just put out a bid...

TWallis,

You might try e-mailing Bulldog so he will know of this knife. He seems to have been bitten bad by the bug. He has gone on a buying spree (at least that's what I call buying 3 graphic Sebbies in one week).

Thanks for the heads up, Mike. It sounds like Bulldawg's home is very loving and Sebenza friendly.

Ken Andrews with Knives and More in Oklahoma City, OK, has graciously provided a home for the #13 Gold Coin Sebenza. Thanks, Ken!
