I hope I'm not stepping on anyones toes by cross forum-posting this, but...I know I'm not the only guy here who makes knife purchases on Ebay, and wanted to give other folks a heads up.

So...check this out: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=378350

The grand irony of this for me is that I was fixing to check out E-Prey for a....you guessed it...Commander! when I noticed this!

Irregardless of how much we like to kick around and discuss Emerson, Benchmade, Spyderco, etc. no manufacturer or knut should have to deal with that kinda garbage.

Kudos to whoever first noticed that, eh? Definitely sharper eyes than mine!

Oh and how right you are in the title of this thread!!! This infuriates me!!

I was spammed by a Chinese knife maker and out of curiosity had a look at their stuff. Some of the 'Survival Knives' we are talking about 10" OAL sheath and all the crap that fits into the handle or sheath were selling for 64 Yen. Thats about US.50c

They just scream 'quality'

Surely there is something that can be done against this seller?

Maybe Ernie should buy one and then find out where it came from, if you know what I mean.

Looks like that joker has been shut down already -- the auction is over and if you "GO TO WEB SITE FOR MORE INFO" you won't find any. Though of course he's not in jail where he belongs. :thumbdn:

It seems that the seller was the one that ended the bidding. Checking the bidders list it looks like a dozen of these knives were sold. Pretty scummy way to make money.

More hand wringing. What good does it do? Instead of complaining here about the temperature of your blood, get busy. The list of buyers is right there. Use the eBay Contact Member feature to e-mail each one and tell them that they just spent $104 for a counterfeit Chinese copy not worth $4. If you act quickly, you might still catch a few of 'em before they pay and all of 'em in time to trash the guy's feedback.

Done. Now let's see if I get kicked off eBay for sending all those warnings.

I also reported the auction to eBay.

I don't doubt Emerson in calling it a fake....but can anybody tell me wherein lies the counterfeit? Is it the logo? Just want to be able to spot 'em better...

I had initial difficulty as well discerning the fake. If you look closely, the handle is shaped slightly differently, and the screws are placed differently. The angle of the image in the auction helps to hide these differences a little.

I was kinda wondering the same thing before I went shootin' my mouth off to these guys. From what I saw at a glance, it looks like maybe the handle is thicker and a bit deeper near the pivot...or izzat just me?

It sounds like KM already sent out some E-mails to the purchasers. Anyone else got any other suggestions?

Send more emails to the purchasers?
E-mail and tell the seller what a piece of sh!t he is?
Would E-Prey actually DO anything, if this dude were reported to them?

I'll admit, I'm a bit naive and inexperienced when it comes to dealing with such online matters....:o

Thanks for the heads up. I too had a hard time telling it was a copy. I only have one Emerson and I love it.

It would be much appreciated if someone could post a few spots where this knife is "off". I cant really see the logo clearly, but its location looks the same as the special edition models on the web sight, the screw locations look identical as well on the special model.

I have a few emersons and really love them, id hate to get ripped off and not even know it. thanks

If you look at the photo of the knife with the six boxes, there are many differences between this knife and the Commanders that I have seen. The logo is in the wrong place and it is not a very good replica of the actual Emerson logo. the blade bevels are also all wrong. Even taking into account the angle of the photo, the blade just looks all wrong. The handle is better, but there are still some noticeable differences. The point at the bottom of the guard/front of the choil is not rounded off like it is on the original. The point near the finger ramp is also less rounded.

I've contacted the members on that bidding list, referencing the original thread by Mr. Emerson. Maybe it'll be more believable if a whole bunch of people contact them... hopefully.

Ebay got back to me saying they are looking into this matter. Not sure if they will do anything, but I've done all I can do.
