They are cool but his designs remind me of other makers work and I don't think its original. He has good craftsmanship which is undeniable but the knives don't appeal to me. To many distracting things. The first two remind me of alot of Donald Bell models, and the middle one reminds me of a specific Josh Smith folder.
Not a knock on your collection! They are still nice and I appreciate seeing them.
Hi Jonathan,
Thanks for posting, though the design of these knives are a collaboration between Thita and me...
The pearl folder was from an idea I had to blend the bolsters into the scales in an organic fashion. This was my original drawing (hate to even show it...ouch)
And these are the drawings that came back
We settled on the last design, I sent the Eggerling damascus to Thailand, and you see the result. The whole process took about two months!
In discussing the next knife, not wanting to rely on my design skills (or lack thereof), I sent Thita a picture of one of my favorite knifes, this Warren Osborne (Picture courtesy of Coop).
This picture was used not to produce a copy, but as an inspiration...to capture some design elements, maybe some sense of flow that could be utilized in a new knife. This is the drawing that was returned
We decided to use black-lip pearl as the scale material, and whereas the Osborne is an auto, the knife above is an assisted opening, using a cam mechanism. Again, bars of Eggerling damascus were sent, and in several months...

The same collaborative process took place with all of the knives (my drawing)...
Also, I think you are correct in that I also see a similarity between the knives of Josh Smith and Warren Osborne (though I hold no ill will

)
