I've noticed there were some other cigar threads here so I was just wondering if anyone had any experience with Thompson cigars in-house brands. I recently bought a sampler pack from them and it had a Tusker, which is one of their house brands and it was decent enough and in the catalog they are priced right. I was curious as to if their other house cigars were as good. Also anyone try the Iguana with the candela wrappers they caught my attention with the bright green wrapper.

Thompson's house brands are ok but with so many cigar makers suffering from the post boom craze there are many quality cigars to be had at bargain prices. When cigars suddenly became trendy 15 years ago there was a rush to produce and suddenly that demand has recently dropped off, I think the trendy have moved on to other pursuits. As an example Tuskers were mentioned, I have tried them and they are a decent cigar but for just about the same price (or less) I can buy Gurkha Castle Halls or Indian Tabac from Cigars International. In todays market it pays to shop around. I also like Cigar Internationals Cigar of the Month Club, they only include top drawer cigars and is worth the price of 20.00 a month. Their Friday Night Fights and Rumble in the Jungle samplers are also great deals and allow you to compare some higher quality cigars.

As far as candela cigars, they tend to be mild, easy on the palette smokes. If you enjoy milder cigars you will probably like them. Another nice candela is the Baccarat Candela.

Stay away from Thompson, I dont know many people that have a good long term relationship with them. Try Cigars International, Holts, JR Cigars, Famous Smoke Shop or CigarBid all very solid!!

Thanks for the replies, and the heads up on Cigar International. Just checked out their site and it looks like my first order when I get home might go to them. I ordered a sampler from Thompsons recently and it came with some nicer cigars, in good shape, and arrived from time that I ordered to my current location in SW Asia in about 10 days ,so as of now I wouldn't have reservations about ordering from them again. Just curious as to the issues others have encountered with them?

I, too, started with Thompson. They were sending me catalogs before I even started smoking cigars.
You will find that high quality can be found at much lower prices elsewhere, notably JR.
Having said that, I do like their selection and prices on accessories. I had a very nice oak ashtray stand built for a Thompson crystal ashtray.

cuban crafters is another good place to start .
ive smoked the don kiki red and green labels
and they were good for the price and i'd
consider buying from them again

I just got a few cigars from Famous Smoke Shop and the deal i got is easily 50% off or even more compared to local shops when they are on sale. I suggest some la gloria cubana series R #7. Great cigar and it will last a long time.
